ePLATFORMS

I work as a nurse in charge/team leader at the health center. The tools I use are Microsoft Office package (outlook, onedrive, share point, teams etc.) Besides these I use Titania to create and plan my employees’ work shifts. We also have personec ESS where we handle all HR matters. I don’t use tools of social media at my work. I think it is quite difficult to use those because the field of nursing is so sensitive, and you can’t post anything that touch with employers or patient matters.

Pros and Cons of Social Media

When I was on the seventh grade I signed into Facebook. Before Facebook we kids used Windows Live Messenger aka. Mese (in Finnish) to chat with each other after school. Back in the days we uploaded pictures on ii2 or IRC gallery and dedicated our pictures to our friends, but today we use e.g. Instagram, WhatsApp or Snapchat to communicate. Oh, how the social media has been changed, or has it?

We have had social media platforms probably as long as we have had the Internet, I think. Nowadays we just use the platforms mainly through our smartphones rather than a computer which makes it easier to use because it fits in your pocket. Only in seconds you can add a picture on your Instagram story and let your friends to know what you have been up to.

Trough social media you can find the information you are keen to, to find new friends and familiarize with the company you are trying to apply in. Social media is a place where to find information and to share your daily life with people you have chosen with.

Negative impacts of social media have been there from the day one. The causes, like cyberbullying, are nowadays more seeable because people talk about (e.g. influencers) and there is reliable research about the negative impacts. Other negative side of social media is that it helps disinformation to spread super fast and you must be able to distinguish between disinformation and reliable information which requires good media literacy skills.

The tools I chose

DeepL

I choose DeepL (translator and write) because we have a lot of non-Finnish patients and sometimes there might be difficulties to understand each other. Especially it there is no common language. That tool is also handy if I would need to write something down in patient’s own language for example on some forms which we don’t have on patient’s own language. Only minus is that there seems not to be any African languages. It also works well if you don’t speak English very well and you need to translate something that a patient has been written down.

If I would need to use English in other purposes at work, I would use this tool to help me write proper and decent sentences. Too bad I found this tool on this last assignment because it seems to be quite handy to check if you are able to write proper English.

LinkedIn

I’m a bit familiar with LinkedIn but haven’t sign in yet. Maybe trough these studies I’ll activate and create a profile on it. I think LinkedIn is a modern way to help both employers and employees to contact each other and you can inform there if you are available for work. It also gives you a chance to find work worldwide.

In LinkedIn I would also be able to contact with other colleagues from different cities and countries and find a peer-to-peer support.

Instagram

The third one I chose is Instagram. Not so sure why I chose it because I can’t really use it on my work. But let’s imagine that I could! I would create an account where I would post pictures about my daily work and let people know what the work is like as a nurse in charge at the health center. On this Instagram account there would also be some daily glimpses of our day through the eyes of different health care professionals. Our own Instagram page would promote us a happy and warm and welcoming health center.

ChatGPT

I’m not so used to use artificial intelligence yet, but I think I might start using it now. I would use ChatGPT to solve problems to see if it could give me helpful answers in situation where I would be struggling. It is also convenient to summaries long reports if I’m too busy (or lazy) to read it from beginning to end.

Miro

I’ve used Miro once before and found it quite handy. I liked the way how you can add digital post-it notes on the canvas and other members can add their notes as well. It is a good tool for a project works and I would use it a part of a team meetings where I want other members to write down their ideas.

Elements of successful use of digital application

In my opinion the successful use of digital application is to know-how to use the application itself so you can get the most of it. Search and find what the application is capable of. What comes to social media applications it is important to be polite and respectful, publish only reliable information and things that you don’t mind staying on the internet forever.

Self-evaluation

I’m chocked! I’ve thought that as a millennial I’m used to utilize digital tools and platforms, but the truth is that I’m way behind the AI development and all the different ways how it can be used. During this study course I’ve realized how big role AI has in this world, and I must jump in.

It was interesting to get familiar with all different digital tools that I’ve never even heard of. Many of them seems to be more for professional use and good tools e.g. for project works. I think I found a good partner of DeepL application. And not to mention! Writing a blog was a new experience for me and it wasn’t even difficult to create and I found it quite joyful.
