ePLATFORMS

I work as an expert in well-being at work and work ability. I support supervisors’ work ability management and participate in employees’ work ability processes. I also support work communities in challenging situations. I meet a lot of people face to face. I collaborate with supervisors, employees, occupational safety and occupational health care, Keva and Kela, among others. The main tools are phone, email, and Teams. I also use PowerPoint when I need to create material for teaching or guidance. I mainly use one electronic system in my work, which is Aino Health manager. It is a work ability management system.

I don’t use social media tools at all in my work. I use social media very little anyway. The organization I work for is active on social media. I follow it myself on Instagram. Here are five tools of social media, that I might be able to use at my daily work.

 Doodle

Doodle is an electronic calendar tool for time management and meeting coordination. It allows to organize meetings quickly and simply without the need for many emails. I have several meetings every day and Doodle could make it easier to coordinate meetings.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is like an automatic typewriter that answers my questions. I could use ChatGPT for my work when I need information. I’m still a fairly new employee in my job and I still have a lot to learn. I often have to search for information and ChatGPT could help me with that.

Miro

Miro is a digital whiteboard that can be used in Teams meetings when working together. My team’s meetings are often Teams meetings. We could use this visual tool in our meetings.

WhatsApp

I use WhatsApp in my private life, but it could also be a good tool in my work. We could create a WhatsApp group for our team to facilitate communication.

Todoist

Todoist is a tool that helps  managing work and tasks. It serves as a tool for managing one’s own work and facilitates collaboration between teams. Todoist could help my team delegate and plan tasks. My team makes often instructions and materials for training. The application would allow us to share files and edit them.

My thoughts of social media

I chose the social media tools of Doodle, ChatGPT, Miro, WhatsApp, and Todoist because they would benefit me and my team. The use of social media tools should be carefully considered. They should not complicate the work. Using them should be effortless and simple, making work easier. Social media tools also need to be free or affordable and safe.

Of the above tools, only WhatsApp was familiar to me. I first used ChatGPT when I was doing a Digi society assignment. WhatsApp would be a fast communication tool for my team, but at the moment it is not allowed for security reasons. My organization is specific about what kind of apps employees can use. Price and especially the security of applications affect the choices made by an organization.

My organization is active on social media and maybe my team could be too. I don’t have Instagram or Facebook on my list, but when I think about it, they could be useful tools in my work. My team doesn’t need visibility outside my organization and therefore doesn’t need social media. But my team could be more visible to the employees of the organization and share on instagram and facebook, for example, tips on well-being at work or links to articles about well-being at work. If we were to use these social media channels, we should actively read comments and respond to them as well. But is there time for all that? There is a lot of work to be done anyway.

Social media was created to help people connect. It’s an easy and quick way to communicate, and distances aren’t an obstacle. However, it is important to be aware of the downsides of social media. On social media, privacy can be under threat and the more you share about yourself, the less privacy you have. We also know that sharing misinformation, bullying and inappropriate behavior on social media is common. Perhaps the most negative thing is that people communicate less face-to-face, and even if we spend time together, social media is always present.

It was interesting to get to know different platforms. I noticed that I don’t know many of them. There are really a lot of platforms and it can be difficult to find a suitable one. It was good to think about social media tools and their necessity. I think carefully about which of them I need. What they give me and what they take from me. I’m not active on social media, and I’ve never used Facebook. That’s partly because I’m careful about my privacy.
