DIGI CITIZEN
KELA, OMAKANTA AND KEVA
I have used first time KELA services when I was a student and got financial aid from KELA. Me and my family have got different benefit that are obtained for families with children. My family gets child benefit, and we got maternity package few weeks ago because were having a baby on this summer. Soon I will also get pregnancy allowance and after that parental allowance and child home care allowance. Few years ago, I got European health care card when I traveled in Europe. Previously I have had only travel insurance.
Omakanta is familiar to me, and I log in there always with mobile certificate. It is convenient to check my own and my children’s health data when needed.
My retirement age is 67 years and three months and that is earliest time when I can get old-age pension. If I would retire at age 70 my pension would be a bit over 400 euros higher per month than it is at age 67.
DIGITAL SHOPS
I chose Zalando, eBay and Trivago for this task. I have previous experience on Zalando and Trivago as a customer. Prices in Zalando is quite same than in local clothes shops. Zalando´s selection is wide, and customer can brose different kind of options easily. There are often discounts that makes visiting and shopping on Zalando´s site tempting. Service is reliable and customer can easily find information for example on payment options and how to return products. Trivago is accommodation search website that shows deals that their partners like Booking.com or Expedia provides. I would like to call Trivago search engine more likely than digital shop. Searching and comparing in Trivago is easy and customer can find cheapest accommodation option there, but actual shopping is done on some other website. I find trivago reliable, but I can’t tell if all it´s partners are as reliable than Trivago itself. Third digital shop I chose is eBay and that is digital shop where I have never visited before though it is famous. eBay seems to be a bit cheaper than local stores. I didn’t manage to find information on eBay website how I could do shopping in Finland. I assume that eBay is reliable, and it is safe to do shopping there especially if you live in US. I based that opinion on eBay is well known brand. In Finland I don’t think that I would use it. I afraid that it is not easy to solve possible problems if those occur. I establish my opinion on eBays website that I find slightly confusing and didn´t find information as easily than on Zalando´s or Trivago´s sites.
I like to use digital shops and do for example my family´s grocery store shopping often online. It is easier to compare prizes between different products and I can do shopping at the same time I do something else in home. I haven’t had any bad experiences on shopping in digital shops and I think that it is safe when identification happens with bank application.
RADIOLOGY ASSISTANT
From my own or in fact in radiology field I found website “Radiology assistant”. I chose this one because radiology is field that I am interested to learn more. This is quite interesting educational website. This website helps for example radiologists do radiologic reports and radiographers can use it to develop their own knowledge. There is lots of data like lectures, radiologic images and findings, imaging protocols etc. Also, an app is available for iPhone or iPad on this website. This website is easy to use and is maintained radiology society of Netherlands which makes it reliable on my mind. My user experience was positive, and I would recommend this site for my colleagues and radiologists.
RISKS AND CHALLENGES FOR PEOPLE WHO DO NOT USE VIRTUAL SERVICES
Risk for those people who do not use virtual services is that they are not familiar on their deserved benefits. First on my mind comes KELA services and challenges to handle things with KELA otherwise than online. Because it is easy and economically useful to offer services online, it might be difficult to get service otherwise than in internet. For example, there might not be possible to use bank services otherwise than in internet because there are no more bank offices in every village or city. It is challenging try to handle own things without using virtual services. Healthcare and social care uses already lots of virtual services and that is probably emerging trend. That might cause inequality between people who are willing to use virtual services and those who are not. I think that everyone should have right use public services without digital connections and at least for those services that I am familiar with in healthcare it is possible. Booking an appointment or checking persons own healthcare data etc. is more convenient if patient uses virtual services but it is not (at least yet) essential to use virtual services. I hope that there are places for people who do not know how to use digital services where they can get help for it.
DIGITAL VIRTUAL TEST
As my test result tells my digital competences are on average level. I am not that experienced user what it comes on digital applications or different systems, but I am motivated to learn more. I have basic skills and knowledge about most of things that was in this test and lot to learn.
WHAT DID I LEARN?
Actually, I have learned lot so far. As I said previously my digital competences are on average level and there is much to learn on this field. KELA and OmaKanta are familiar to me but on KEVA´s site I visited first time. I am quite used to use Internet and search information but knowledge about how to estimate website’s reliability is bit more difficult task for me. Digital virtual test helped to realize how different kind of areas includes on digital competences. It was good to take a moment to think how hard it would try to take care of things without using any digital services. It was interesting to read what other students have written about this topic and that gave me some new aspects and thoughts. This task gave a glance that there is many interesting applications and digital services available on internet that I have never heard before and some of them might be useful in my every day work life.

Hi, it was nice to read your thoughts about digital citizenship. To me it is also difficult to estimate the reliability of the website I’m visiting. It’s hard to know what the red flags are that you should be looking for if the website itself looks convincing.
The emphasis that you made about healthcare services being offered more and more virtually, made me stop and think. This is surely the field that the services need to be achievable by every citizen even without digital talents.
