LEARNING COMPETENCE
Level of Competence: I adhered to organisation’s policies and procedures by arriving to work early and leaving on time. My tutors were able to provide with constructive feedback after each procedure which helped me perform my duties more efficiently and made it simpler for me to apply theoretical knowledge to real world scenarios during practice. After-shifts feedback also helps me identify my strengths and areas to improve on.
How I Attained My Goal: While performing nursing procedures, I paid close attention to my theoretical knowledge and took precautions based on my mentor’s feedback.
ETHICAL KNOWLEDGE AND PROFESSIONALISM
Level of Competence: My knowledge of nursing values and basic nursing ideas helped me interact with patients in a professional way that respected their personalities and uniqueness. I interacted with patient’s rights without violating their human dignity, religious view, personal views nor did it go against the document confidentiality of social welfare and healthcare services.
How I Attained My Goal: I was willing to participate in various challenging scenarios which encouraged me to be more professional in carrying out my duties.
WORK COMMUNITY SKILL
Level of Competence: I was able to adhere to my unit’s agreed upon rules and protocols. Also, as a student, I was aware of my limitations in carrying out my duties so I always do it under the guidance. I also learnt how to work with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
How I Attained My Goal: This goal was achieved through proper orientation to the work community as well as my mentor’s supervision.
CLINICAL SKILLS
level of Competence Working aseptically and improving on my ergonomic skill have been crucial to my practice. Monitoring of patient’s vital signs and fluid therapy, assessment of pain and administration of prescribed medications. Regular taking of NEWS score, assessing wound site, rehabilitation of patients, maintenance of nil per oral as ordered and gastrointestinal function are all monitored.
How I Attained My Goal: With the guidance of my mentor nurse, I was guided through all these information which also boosted my confidence.
EVIDENCE-BASED NURSING AND DECISION MAKING
Level of Competence: I was fascinated about the medication treatment of pain especially postoperative pain medications.
How I Achieved My Goal: I used portals such as terveysportti to support my knowledge of evidence-based nursing while caring for my patients.
GUIDANCE AND EDUCATION COMPETENCE
Level of Competence: I was able to guide patients through their discharge procedure effectively, outlining their follow-up care and what was required of them once discharged.
How I Achieved My Goal: I ensured I communicated well with patients and also paid close attention to their body language. I also requested for feedback to ensure my message is well understood.
QUALITY AND SAFETY OF SOCIAL AND HEALTH SERVICES COMPETENCE
Level of Competence: safety and the patient’s physical, emotional and social well-being were taken into account. ABCDE and NEWS score are effectively applied to nursing care.
Implementing nursing care plan according to the physician’s order and communicating with patients so as to to provide the best care possible to ensure patient’s safety.
How I Attained My Goal: I ensured patient’s safety while rendering every nursing care and I also received additional training from my mentor nurse.
