The mid-internship evaluation done by my tutor teacher and my mentor nurse in the third week of my internship really brought some clarity to my goals and how to achieve those I’m yet to achieve.
My mentor nurse ensured I take more charge of patients’ care, in terms of planning and implementing the plan. For instance, The patient I was in charge of had shortness of breath, though oxygen therapy was not prescribed, a spirometry test was ordered which I did according to the hospital guideline. Also, I was able to collect sample specimen for covid and influenza tests.
I also went in-depth to the various drugs used for hypertension since that’s one of the most common ailments in my unit.
I am glad to say that aseptic preparation and administration of medications is one of my strengths, though I ensure I participate in as much nursing procedures as possible in order to gain mastery.
