WHO AM I?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am an adventurous and passionate individual whose zeal to learn is second to none. I chose the Nursing career because universally accessible healthcare is something I yearn for and I am passionate about. My dream is to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable to everyone no matter their creed, race, religion, social and economic status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My journey into the Nursing profession started some 10 years ago when I obtained a diploma certificate in Nursing from my home country in the year 2012. I practiced as a registered Nurse and also raised a family within those years. I am blessed with a loving husband and three wonderful children, the eldest being 10 and the youngest 3 years of age. For a while, I have been away from active nursing practice and I am thankful for Savonia UAS for this opportunity to further my education and in extension, my career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I would like to see this period of my training as a time to get equipped with the latest information, technology and practices in the Nursing profession in order for me to be able to deliver the best nursing care available in a modern and dignified way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
LEARNING SKILLS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The paediatric field will be intriguing for me, considering the fact that I have a soft spot for children. Even though I have children of my own and I have taken care and still taking care of them, I know it is going to be a different ball game nursing ailing children in the hospital. I consider myself a ”child whisperer”. In order for me to achieve my set goals for this internship, I will meticulously plan my schedule with my mentor nurse and also reflect on my learning on a weekly basis in my blog . <\/p>\n\n\n\n ETHICAL COMPETENCE AND PROFESSIONALITY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Even though children and adolescents are still developing both physically and biologically, It is important to note that they have their rights and also there are ethical guidelines that govern the nursing of both children and adolescents. I will ensure I get myself familiar with the various legislations e.g, the child welfare act, rights of a child in hospital (NOBAB) and so on, that guides the nursing care of both children and adolescents alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n WORKING SOCIETY COMPETENCE<\/p>\n\n\n\n The healthcare environment, particularly the hospital is one of those places that is established and thrives on teamwork. During my previous internships, I have been able to work and improve on my collaboration within the multidisciplinary team but this internship might be a bit different since I will be caring for children and there might be a need to work with more professionals outside of the conventional hospital walls such as the social workers and the police, especially where abuse is suspected. I will ensure I continue to improve on my interpersonal relationship skills and also, if there are any cases of suspected abuse, I will pay close attention to how it is being handled by my mentor nurse because of its peculiarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PATIENT-ORIENTED NURSING CARE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In caring for children, It is important to note that even though they have parents or guardians, they are an individual. I will ensure I plan my nursing care with the aim of caring for an individual entity putting into consideration his views and cultural identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n EVIDENCE-BASED NURSING AND DECISION MAKING<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n There are various milestones to be attained while a child is growing and developing though it varies from child to child like babbling, rolling from side to side, holding the head still, taking the first step, e.t.c., which I have all observed while my children were infants and toddlers. I will ensure I use various available tools to search for information about the normal growth and development of a child and also to determine if there are any deviations from normal. Also, family members will be involved in the care of the child or adolescents and they are made aware of available resources that are beneficial to them in caring for their loved ones with the direction and guidance of my mentor nurse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CLINICAL NURSING CARE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In school, we have been taught and simulated various different paediatric scenarios and of particular interest to me is paediatric drug calculation and fluid therapy. Of course, during previous internships, I was tasked with the preparation and administration of medications under aseptic conditions which I carried out and was commended for by my mentor nurse. I would work closely with my mentor nurse in the preparation and administration of paediatric medications because it differs from that of an adult. I am also interested in various diversional therapies or plays that can be used to alleviate the suffering of ailing children and to do this, I will seek the advice of my mentor nurse to adopt appropriate play for each children’s condition. I will also ensure my medication passport is filled thoroughly by both me and my mentor nurse as I get acquainted with new drugs and paediatric preparations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even though we have simulated paediatric vital signs in school, I would be thrilled to be able to take the vital signs of an actual child and also take measurements such as their weight and height as all these can be affected by various disease process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" WHO AM I?
