Low birth weight babies are babies who weigh lesser than 2.5kg at birth while very low birth weight babies are babies that weighs less than 1.5kg at birth. In my unit, it is mainly caused by prematurity and multiple births.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I learnt about the guidance of parents and surrogates through the provision of kangaroo mother care and was able to guide them through successfully. This will be discussed more in my assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also learnt about the basic care of neonates, that is all treatments and nursing care should geared towards the <strong>prevention of hypothermia, hyperthermia, electrolyte imbalance, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia and infection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week as well as last week, I worked in the neonatal unit where low birth weight and very low birth weight babies are cared for.
