WHO AM I?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am an adventurous and passionate individual whose zeal to learn is second to none. I chose the Nursing career because universally accessible healthcare is something I yearn for and I am passionate about. My dream is to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable to everyone no matter their creed, race, religion, social and economic status. I would also like to one day, teach would-be Nurses the art and science of the Nursing profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My journey into the Nursing profession started some 10 years ago where I was able to obtain a diploma certificate in Nursing from my home country in the year 2012. I practiced as a registered Nurse and also raised a family within those years. I am blessed with a loving husband and three wonderful children, ages 11, 9 and 4. For a while, I have been away from active nursing practice and I am thankful for Savonia UAS for this opportunity to further my education and in extension, my career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I would like to see this period of my training as a time to get equipped with the latest information, technology and best practices being developed and implemented in the Nursing profession in order for me to be able to deliver the best nursing care available in a modern and dignified way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT KIND OF A LEARNER AM I?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I will consider myself a visual and demonstrative learner as I learn easily and faster when examples are shown and procedures are demonstrated to me. I also consider myself a critical thinker which I am sure will come in handy for me during my training and career. I learn easily in a professional, respectful and cordial environment and I put my all into learning any task I am given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PREVIOUS INTERNSHIPS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Nursing assessment and intervention- RPL<\/p>\n\n\n\n Medical Nursing Practice – Yla-Savon Sote, Iisalmi, Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Perioperative Nursing Practice – Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Paediatrics and Family Health Nursing – Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mental health and substance abuse Nursing Practice – Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gerontology and home care services – Esperi, Kuopio, Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These internships has had tremendous impact on my ”nursing journey” thus far and I believe will last through out my nursing career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I have had positive feedback from my school and clinical mentors during my previous internships particularly in the aspect of aseptic preparation and administration of medications, excellent application of theoretical knowledge into practice, requesting feedback, good nurse-patient relationship. I would like to further work on my ergonomic skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ETHICS AND PROFESSIONALITY IN NURSING<\/p>\n\n\n\n My previous internships and experiences have equipped me with different skills which has made those internships successful, hence their application in this forthcoming internship. I was able to plan my schedule with my mentor, which gave room for flexibility. I also took responsibility for my learning outcomes and activities by suggesting to my mentor what I would like to learn in order to achieve my set goals. I also asked and gave feedback to my mentors and this gave an insight to what I was doing right and what I needed to improve upon. I understood my role as a student, that is, my boundaries and so on. The Nursing profession is one guided by ethics because you get to interact with clients, their family members and professional colleagues, I have made myself familiar with various ethical guidelines of the profession and I intend to put them into good use. I plan to use all these insights I have gained and improve more on them during this internship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CUSTOMER-ORIENTED APPROACH AND CLINICAL SKILLS<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of my many strenghts is good human relation, I like to interact with people as an individual and meeting their individual health needs, during this internship, I will harness this to be able to recognise and exploit customer\u2019s\/patient\u2019s resources in a versatile manner. The healthcare team consists of other healthcare professionals such as the physician, dietician, occupational therapist, speech therapist and so on, I will be using my knowldge of these professional groups in collaboration with mine to work as a representative of customer and health care services in different teams. Pharmacotherapy is an aspect of nursing that I have gotten better at over the years and that my mentors in previous internships has commended me for, I will be using this skills to practice safe pharmacotherapy and also developing more on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n EVIDENCE-BASED NURSING AND DECISION MAKING<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nursing is a scientific discipline, therefore, procedures and interventions carried out must be evidence-based and align with best practices. In school, we have been tasked with different assignments which had to be supported with scientific articles or researches, also, in previous internships, procedures and interventions are backed up with scientific rationales. In this internship, I will ensure all nursing procedures and intervention carried out under the supervision of my mentor nurse are evidence-based and aligns with best practices. Even though I am able to document quite well in English, documentation in Finnish has been a challenge for me due to my limited proficiency, however, I was able to practice more during my last internship and there was a great improvement. I was able to work out a plan with my mentor nurse to make my observations and documentations in English, then she translates to Finnish and document. I would like to work more on my documentation skills during this internship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n QUALITY AND SAFETY IN SOCIAL AND HEALTH CARE SERVICES<\/p>\n\n\n\n In carrying out my nursing activities, the safety of the patients\/ clients has always been of utmost importance and never been compromised with. Patient’s safety has been the benchmark of my nursing care as I try to consider the physical, emotional and social well-being of the patient while caring for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I want to further deepen my knowledge and also practice more patient’s safety, in order to realize this goal, I must ensure the equipment patients are to use are safe and fit for purpose. Also, I must communicate with my patients and colleague in clear and concise terms in order to ensure that messages sent and received are clear and understood because miscommunication can undermine patient’s safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Patient’s medications will be administered while being guided by the rules of safe medication administration. I will ensure I work more ergonomically in order to ensure both the patient’s safety and mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Different nursing tools such as the ISBAR reporting, NEWS score and the ABCDE approach will also be utilized to ensure optimal care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" WHO AM I?
