That blog\/site will be your personal learning environment, where you share all of the assignments with teachers, students and the whole world. You can contact me also by email: firstname.surname@savonia.fi.<\/p>\n<h3>Introduction to WordPress<\/h3>\n<p>WordPress.com is a blogging and web page service. Today it&#8217;s the most popular blogging system\/service on the web. This site which you are just looking is done also with WordPress. It provides free blog hosting for registered users and is financially supported via paid upgrades,\u00a0services and advertising. WordPress.com\u00a0offers a wide array of features for creating your blog or homepage. Check out\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wordpress.com\/features\/\">features page<\/a>\u00a0for an overview.<\/p>\n<p>In this course we are using the WordPress application, which is hosted by Savonia UAS. You will make first your own blog\/website, where you will share all the assignments we are doing in this course. So each student will create her\/his own web site by using the WordPress. Create your own site\/blog<\/h3>\n<p>First we create your own site\/blog, where you will do your assignments. Go to address <a href=\"http:\/\/blogi.savonia.fi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/blogi.savonia.fi<\/a> \u00a0and log in with your Savonia Campus account name and password.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">If you don&#8217;t have a Savonia Campus account, you can also create your own blog site to original\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/\">https:\/\/<span class=\"searchHighlight\">wordpress<\/span>.com<\/a>\u00a0service. Choose option &#8220;<strong>No<\/strong>&#8221; for\u00a0<strong>Allow search engines to index this site<\/strong>\u2026 and finally, click &#8220;<strong>Create Site<\/strong>&#8220;. Now you have made your own site.<\/p>\n<p>When you have created the site, please send the address of your site via e-mail to: timo.sirvio@savonia.fi \u2013 that&#8217;s very important!<\/p>\n<p>Then click your blogs &#8220;title&#8221; to go to site&#8217;s dashboard.<\/p>\n<p>.<a id=\"02\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>2. Your sites dashboard<\/h3>\n<p>Now we go to the dashboard of your site by logging.\u00a0The\u00a0<strong>Dashboard<\/strong>\u00a0is the administration area of your blog\/site. If you aren&#8217;t already logged in to your account, go to your WordPress site and put\u00a0<strong>\/wp-admin<\/strong>\u00a0at the end of the URL. For example, if your site is located at <strong>blogi.savonia.fi\/liisaihmemaa<\/strong>, then go to\u00a0<strong>blogi.savonia.fi\/liisaihmemaa\/wp-admin<\/strong>\u00a0to access your login screen. Then you will be in your WordPress&#8217;s Dashboard.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"hps\">From the image below<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">you&#8217;ll find<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">the main menu<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">features of the Dashboard. Configure basic settings<\/h3>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t done this at the start, you can do it now. When you are in your dashboard, one of the two most important settings you\u2019ll probably want to do right away is your site title. When you have made your profile, WordPress has given your blog the same title as your username, but that might not be what you want , also you\u2019ve got a generic tagline.<\/p>\n<p>To configure those, go to main menu and click\u00a0<em><strong>Settings &gt; General<\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0and enter your site\u2019s title and your new tagline. You can also select the day the week starts on and the language for your blog.\u00a0<a id=\"04\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>4. Add personal touches to your site<\/h3>\n<p>You can customise your blog more attractive by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learn.wordpress.com\/get-configured\/#personal\">changing the header or background<\/a>.<br \/>\nIf you want, you can change the look of the site by changing a sites theme.\u00a0A theme is a template for your site and it creates the layout. You can switch the theme whenever you\u2019d like. You can learn more about themes\u00a0<a style=\"font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;line-height: 1.5\" href=\"http:\/\/learn.wordpress.com\/get-personality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>\u00a0that some of the themes doesn&#8217;t display a menu by default. So if you want to use that kind of theme, you have to\u00a0set up a Custom Menu. It\u2019s maybe little bit complicated,\u00a0but here you can find\u00a0instructions for that:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #1f497d\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.support.wordpress.com\/menus\">http:\/\/en.support.wordpress.com\/menus<\/a>\/.<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 And, if you don\u2019t want do that, you can just try another theme which diplays a menu by default:)<a id=\"05\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>5. Create pages and posts<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Posts<\/strong>\u00a0are dated, and they appear in reverse chronological order; as you publish new posts, older posts get pushed down the page.\u00a0<strong>Pages<\/strong>\u00a0are more static and are not listed by date.\u00a0You can read about differences between Posts and pages\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.support.wordpress.com\/post-vs-page\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>First we will make five different pages to your site:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"page_item page-item-7\">DIGI SOCIETY\u00a0\u2013 for the digi society assignments<\/li>\n<li class=\"page_item page-item-11\">DIGI CITIZEN\u00a0\u2013 for the digi citizen\u00a0assignments<\/li>\n<li class=\"page_item page-item-14\">ePLATFORMS\u00a0\u2013 for the ePlatforms\u00a0assignment<\/li>\n<li class=\"page_item page-item-14\">CV \u2013 your CV will be there<\/li>\n<li class=\"page_item page-item-14\">CONTACT \u2013 your contact information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will edit these pages (DIGI SOCIETY, DIGI CITIZEN &amp; ePLATFORMS) during the course by writing your assignments there.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s create first the &#8220;DIGI SOCIETY&#8221; page. Head into your dashboard and make your way to\u00a0<em>Pages &gt; Add New<\/em>. You can find out what any one of them does by hovering over it with your mouse; a pop-up text will appear telling you what it is. Many of them are\u00a0familiar with your word processing program \u2014 bold and italic text, justification options, bullets, and more. You can find<a href=\"http:\/\/en.support.wordpress.com\/visual-editor\/\">\u00a0a comprehensive tour of all the options here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Click to Enter title here and write &#8220;DIGI SOCIETY&#8221;. Title will appear to your sites main menu and it will be the main heading of the current page. Then click to empty text area and write for example: &#8220;An orientation assignment will appear here soon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other key tasks you can do in the dashboard editor are located on the right. You can change\u00a0<em><strong>Page Attributes<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parent<\/strong>\u00a0| You can arrange your pages in hierarchies. For example, you could have an \u201cScandinavian Countries\u201d page that has \u201cNorway\u201d and \u201cSweden\u201d pages under it. There are no limits to how many levels you can nest pages. Choose\u00a0&#8220;no parent&#8221; option, because this page is on the top of the hierarchy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Template<\/strong>\u00a0|\u00a0Some themes have custom templates you can use for certain pages that might have additional features or custom layouts. If so, you\u2019ll see them in this dropdown menu. Choose\u00a0the Default Template.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Order<\/strong>\u00a0|\u00a0Pages are usually ordered alphabetically, but you can choose your own order by entering a number (1 for first, etc.) in this field. You can preview a page before publishing it by clicking\u00a0<strong><em>Preview<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>at the top right of the box.\u00a0 If you\u2019re ready you can publish your page by clicking\u00a0<em><strong>Publish<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0button (\u2013 once you have published the page Publish button will appear as\u00a0<strong><em>Update<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>button). By\u00a0clicking the\u00a0<em><strong>Move to trash<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0you can delete the entire page.\u00a0Click\u00a0<em><strong>Preview<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0to see how the page looks. Everything ok with the page?\u00a0Head back into your dashboard by clicking top left menu&#8217;s\u00a0<strong><em>wp admin<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and make your way to\u00a0<strong><em>Pages &gt; Add New<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0Then create the following pages (with order numbers):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"page_item page-item-7\">DIGI CITIZEN\u00a0\u2013 for the digi citizen\u00a0assignments (order n:o 3)<\/li>\n<li class=\"page_item page-item-14\">PLATFORMS\u00a0\u2013 for the orientation assignment\u00a0(order n:o 4)<\/li>\n<li class=\"page_item page-item-14\">CV \u2013 write your CV there\u00a0(order n:o 5) \u2013 <strong>remember to do this page, too.<\/strong> You can write there an short outline of your educational and professional history.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you have created the pages. If you can&#8217;t see your pages on browser, but they\u00a0exist in the dashboard\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 it may be so, that the theme does not allow pages, i.e. that theme is designed only for a blog and you have to change your theme.<\/p>\n<h3>If you can&#8217;t see the pages in your menu<\/h3>\n<p>Go to\u00a0<strong>My Sites \u2192 Design \u2192 Customize \u2192 Menus<\/strong>. There you can edit your menu or create a new ones. When your theme already has a default\/primary menu, you can click on it to edit it and \u00a0you see the pages included to your menu. When you have already made pages to your site, you can add them to the menu by clicking \u201dAdd Items\u201d. \u00a0A pages list of all pages will now appear to the right side of the menu panel. You can drag and drop pages from the list to the menu. In the same way you can organize the menu items to correct order. You can remove a page from the menu list by clicking it open and then click Remove. When you are done, you can then save your changes from the top left \u201dSave Changes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Congratulations!
