5th Week Reflections

5th week of Paediatric Internship

Period: 13.03. ; 21.03 – 22.03.2023

Place: Kurkimäkin Ckindergarden, Kuopio

Group: Keltainenserkut  Child’s age: 4 years of old

This is my last and at the same time very important week in the Paediatric internship. Time flies really  fast.

I am so sad that my practice is on the final line and I have to say goodbye 💜

The last week of my internship has beeb broken onto 2 parts: Mon 13.03. and Tue 21.03 – Wen 22.03.

We are following, like always, our regular time schedule: 8:00 aamupala, leikkiä, aamupiiri, toiminta, ulkoilu, 12:00 lounas, päiväunet, 12:30 välipala, leikkiä, ulkoilu.

In childhood it is very important to follow daily routine and time schedule, because it helps to develop good time management skill for all life.

 What has been new:

  • I had been woking 1 day in a new group, where there were children of 2 years old. It was because a colleague was ill therefore me and Minna were substituting her.
  • We had lessons by visiting library and storytelling.

 Feelings:

  • I am sure that library visiting is very important for children and helps them to broad their understanding of the world around them. Visiting the library for cultural lessons can provide an opportunity for children to explore different customs, traditions, and beliefs through books, and interactive activities. Reading the books can inspire children to learn about new  information, develop speaking skills, gain a deeper appreciation of their own culture. Libraries can also offer programs and events that showcase different cultures, such as art exhibitions, storytelling sessions. All of these experiences can contribute to a child’s personal and social development, as well as their mental grow.
  • By substituting our colleague, I have once again seen that teamwork and helping each other are very important aspect in nursing life.

 Evaluation

Thus I am pleased to work in multicultural team and I am able to help my colleagues by  substituting each one and  working with collective rules and instructions. I very well know how to play in  teamwork and understud the significance of multidisciplinary collaboration in nursing care of children and family. And I have  familiared with instructions governing exceptional circumstances in the training unit.

Conclusions

During this week I have got once again more deeply knowledge about children in our group; our daily routine  and daily lessons with children.

I am working with my colleagues friendly and confidently,  because I know quit well our kindergarten’s rules and structure and how it works both inside and outside (with parents).

In summary, I can say that I started to feel confidence in myself and my actions and positive emotions when I worked independently. My mentors really help me gain new knowledge and always give me vice advice.

To summarise this week, I would say  that  have enough demonstrated my previous  knowledge and  experience from previous practice  as well as my nursing skilful paediatric field.

Action Plan

My action plan for my 4th week is follow:

  • continue monitoring, assesses and analysing children’s needs, mood changes wishes, threats and then evaluate and assist it;
  • study more deeply child development and wellbeing (physical, cognitive, and emotional) and  in order to get sufficient knowledge in oder to be able and identifies basic needs of children, plan and perform basic nursing care.

Paljon kiitoksia  kollegoilleni ja erityisesti mentorini Minnalle!
