3rd Week Reflections

3rd week of Paediatric Internship

Period: 27.02 – 03.03.2023

Place: Kurkimäen Ckindergarden, Kuopio

Group: Keltainenserkut,  child’s age 4 years of old

I am doing my internship in same place by same way. Every day in this kindergarten is like previous; schedule and routine are like always.

However, I am deeply interested in this practice. I realy like to be here.

 What has been new:

  • In this week I have havde participate in the meeting with my colleagues there we were analysis our children development and planning lessons for the next week; knowledge of children’s growth and development, factors affecting them, family nursing care and paediatric diseases in his or her nursing care plan.

Thus thereby I have implemented my working society competence and my knowledge of children’s rights, ethical guidelines and legislation governing nursing care of children and adolescents.

  • This week was the Finnish national holiday – Kalevala Day. With my colleagues we organised a celebration event  in our group in which were listening to music, reading the Kalevala poem and discussing it with the our children.

Thus thereby I have I have implemented different national culture aspects and child-oriented approach into consideration in their nursing care.

  • It has been really bitter frost – 25ºC in this week. It has been really bitter frost – 25ºC in this week. Therefore, I was  more concerning and paying more attention to the children’s condition their physical senses during workout the game in the yard.
Thus thereby I have implemented different national culture aspects and child-oriented approach into consideration in their nursing care.

 Feelings:

Honestly, I would highlig that this internship in kindergarten is realy differnt that internship in hospital. I was not performing any drugs management, vital assessment or pain management procedures. However I have don a lot to improve my knowledge in Paediatric field when.

Of course , as foreign person and as international students, from time to time I face same situation that shocking me. From time to time I feel feel confused or frustrated.
There are a lot of cultural nuances likewise with all people around the world.

For instance, I am deeply shocked when in the bitter frost – 25ºC parents bring their son without warm socks to kindergarten; one boy has so small shoes that it is absolutely impossible to put it on his feet; one girl has been wearing dirty clothes without changing for a whole week and etc.

Surely, I am used to situations something absolutely strange for me, when someone does not understand me or when I do not understand something.

However, I think everything went pretty nice !

 Evaluation

I am already existing  my daily functions quite good and confident.  My working relationships either with colleagues and children are quite good and professional. I am with pleasure getting good feedback not only from my colleagues in my group and  also from other colleagues from other groups, as well as from my parents. Of course, this is very pleasant for me. I enjoy it and I’m proud of myself. It is always good to look at the essence of the issue from different sides.

I am sure that  my work and my daily functionals in this practice is good support for wellbeing of children and for my colleagues.

during this week I have got more practice in different national culture aspects and child-oriented approach into consideration in their nursing care and demonstrated my my working society competence and my knowledge of children’s rights, ethical guidelines.

Conclusions

During this week I have got once again more deeply knowledge about children in our group; our daily routine  and daily lessons with children.

I am working with my colleagues friendly and confidently,  because I know quit well our kindergarten’s rules and structure and how it works both inside and outside (with parents).

In summary, I can say that I started to feel confidence in myself and my actions and positive emotions when I worked independently. My mentors really help me gain new knowledge and always give me vice advice.

To sum up this week, I would say Ithat  have enough demonstrated my previous  knowledge and  experience from previous practice  as well as my , my nursing skilful paediatric field.

An  I am very interested, inspired and motivated to move forward.

Action Plan

My action plan for my 4th week is follow:

  • continue monitoring, assesses and analysing children’s needs, mood changes wishes, threats and then evaluate and assist it;
  • study more deeply child development and wellbeing (physical, cognitive, and emotional) and  in order to get sufficient knowledge in oder to be able and identifies basic needs of children, plan and perform basic nursing care.

Many thanks to my colleagues and especially to my mentor Minna!

I am very interested, inspired and motivated to move forward!

  1. Dear Inga,
I don’t know how you have reflected on your blog in the past, but is it enough to write down one situation/event for a weekly reflection? By describing one situation in more detail, you can learn more deeply about that event you are describing/about yourself? Now your reflection remains more at a general level.
