I have described this day and my reflections in separately page.

Description

I have got new experience and good knolege practice. I have had understanding and individual relationship with each patient including his or her character, habits, behaviour, disease history.

During this week I was working at Morning shift. This means that an integral part of the day was the morning routine, which includes waking up the patients , checking their the well-being , talking about any pain or discomfort , changing diapers , taking morning medications(also breathing in through the inhaler, instillation of drops in the eyes, injecting pain medication ) , changing clothes , taking blood , measuring blood sugar , measuring the blood pressure , injecting insulin , wrapping the legs with bents , helping with using the toilet room , as well as assissting with taking breakfast and medications that are attached to this breakfast ( some patients are not able to swollow properly , so nuses add thickener to meals and drinks for those who cough). Furthermore, it may occur that some patients are not able to move or stand up without help at all or are partially tied to the bed. In such case , we should turn the patient on the other side of his or her body & definitely cover him or her with pillows ( under head , back, toes, and between the legs) so to prevent a development of pressure ulcers . Morover , we usually use different kinds of machines that assist both a patient and nurses to lift & transfer a client from the bed to a wheelchair(photo below).

Additionally I was handling i.v. injections, cannulations, Fluid transfusion, Blood sampling for laboratory tests, Urinary catheterisation (male), urina for laboratory tests (infection test), ECG.

Feelings

My colleges and mentors are realy high level professionals.

Team work and daily atmosphere is very friendly and mutual helping. Commonly we speak Finnish as well English.

Evaluation

This week I probably just want to evaluate the path which I have already passed. I saw a lot and have tried to do a lot myself. In some places I remembered a couple techniques that make the life of a nurse easier, in some I myself suggested how best to do it , because I was taught that at university. Sharing knowledge is a wonderful experience.

Analysis

Analyzing mistakes and some shortcomings of this week. I can say that sometimes I still get lost in the morning, when I need to go to carry out the morning routine for patients. However, I wrote out a couple of three phrases in my notebook and can file them in a conversation with elderly people.

Conclusions

Summing up the results of this week, I would highlight once again that I am very interested, inspired and motivated to move forward. I am know my collegues, department structure and how it works (inside and outside).

Action Plan

I have to do all daily routine with patients independently, that means perform procedures without the help of practitioners nurses;

More deeply familiarize with Pegasos database

I have to study Finnish and improve my communication skills

Place: Akuuttiosasto Viitasaaren Sairaala Period: vko 19 09.05.2022 – 15.05. 2022 Business days – Morning shift from 7 :00 am to 15:00 pm Sat. 14.05. 2022 – Day shift from 13:oo pm to 21:00 pm Sun 15.05.2022 – Day shift from 13:oo pm to 21:00 pm My daily activities: Vital functions monitorin: Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respiration/ Respiratory Rate /Oxygen Saturation SpO2, Temperature, Consciousness, Blood Glucose; ABCDE Approach to Health Assesment Reporting to Doctor, ISBAR Taking care of patient daily hygiene, Bath Bed Bedsore care (Haaavanhoito) Nutrition treatment.
