I work in the social and health care sector, where digitalization has changed working a lot. I feel that nowadays more time is spent on everything other than work with clients. Nowadays, issues such as logging and data protection have changed my job description a lot. In the future, face-to-face meetings willbe further reduced even and the management of electronic systems will be an important part of the job description. It is good that traveling during working hours is reduced, as various appointments can be made online. This leaves time for more customers during the day. However, I would like to believe that the importance of face-to-face interaction between people will not be forgotten. When doing family work, it is very important to also visit the family’s home and see the family’s home environment and see the interaction between the family there.
Digitalization has changed my life a lot and will continue to do so in the future. It’s already a situation where I can’t managed a working day without a work phone and a computer. Even in your free time, a forgotten phone at home can cause really difficult situations in the day.
For many companies and individuals, information security and protection issues are still unfamiliar and difficult to understand. In my own work, I process my clients’ personal data on a daily basis. The data protection reform has affected my work a lot. Before, customer entries were made alone and the customer rarely read them. A monthly summary was made of the entries, which was reviewed with the customer. Nowadays, we try to make all entries together with the customers, and we talk about participatory recording. I see openness as a good thing, but in some cases this has increased verbal exchange of information and some important things may not be recorded at all, because they do not want to be recorded with the customer. Often, customers also feel that they would like to use the time spent recording for something else.
Chat GPT
When I asked chat GPT a question for which there is direct information, i got well-compiled and extensive answer. But when I asked, for examplem that preventive work of child welfare is sufficient in Finland, that answer said that the question is complex and depends on many factors. the response then listed perspectives and challenges. When I asked about the rush of social workers in Espoo, even then, the answer mainly listed the aspects rekated to the rush. Chat GPT answers extensively and does not properly understand what is relevant to the question. What bothers me, is there are nowhere to be seen sources for an answer.
Self evaluation
The videos and texts made me think even more about information security issues and understand how much effort should be put into them. I learned more about artificial intelligence and, for example, Chat GPT was a new acquaintance for me. I´ve been a bit worried about the use of artificial intelligence and I´ve been estranged from it. Now maybe I was encouraged to use it more when needed in the future.

“Hi Jenna. Thank you for your text!
I have very similar memories of the early days of digitalization from my childhood. Sometimes it’s hard to understand how fast development has progressed since the first smartphones.
I, too, believe that the most of human work can be replaced by robotics in the future. However, I hope that the development will remember the importance of human interaction. Sometimes in my own nightmares, in the future, people just sit in their own homes and there is hardly any interaction with other people anymore, when robots take care of everything.
I’m also worried about data security and protection. They are still very foreig to many people and even in many workplaces these things are still very poorly managed because there is not enough information.”

“Hi Pauliina. Thank you for your text!
It was interesting to read about your work experience, because I myself work in the social and health care sector. I fully agree that in the care sector, receiving new methods can be slow and difficult. Of course, I too hope that digital solutions will be adopted for their benefit and not just because they need to be digitized.
An interesting term is that digital twin. I myself have often wondered what kind of image someone can get of me if they collect the information from the internet. At least I sometimes look up a picture of a new person on the internet before meeting them, and when I see a person in nature, they look completely different nowadays.”
Hi Irina,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on digitalization in the social and health care sector. Your reflections on the balance between technology and human interaction are very important when talking about social and health care work. It’s clear that while digital tools can improve efficiency and save time resources, the importance of face-to-face connections still remains vital in some situations in our field and truly listening client’s worries can change their day. Though , the face-to-face meetings could nowadays be considered to also be achieved via video calls. It was interesting to read your experiences with the ChatGPT in social work related questions. There still seems to be room for improvement with these AI-tools.
Best regards, Samu
