I was introduced to the ward, employees and the fundamentals of nursing practice in a perioperative setting. I planned my internship shifts with my mentor, she took me around the surgical ward and the recovery room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was little bit nervous in the first few days because it is my first internship at KYS hospital. My internship began at the traumatology department which focuses on the treatment of injuries and conditions caused by trauma, for example accident, knee ligament injuries treatment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I managed to see how to take care of wound and I did some wound caring with the help of my mentor. With the supervision of my mentor, I administered antibiotics medications through I.V, gave pain medication orally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goals Achieved in the first Week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Work ethically in accordance with nursing principles and values in a perioperative setting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knows the rudiment of wound caring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply knowledge to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a perioperative patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understands the basics of infection control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applies knowledge and mentoring when preparing a patient for surgical treatment and in postoperative monitoring and nursing care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examines, monitors, and maintains vital function of a perioperative patient.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Week 1 The first week of my internship started with an introduction.
