My gerontology internship started with an introduction where I was introduced to the unit, nurses and the residents. We planned my work shifts together with my mentor, discussed the gerontology goals and objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first days of my internship, I started working with my mentor to get familiar with the residents and what care they needed. Gerontology nursing is similar to my first internship, nursing assessment and intervention. After a few days, I was assigned to my own residents where I provide basic care, infection control principles were observed, including wearing gloves appropriately, washing and disinfecting hands before and after handling patients, keeping an eye on the delivery of medications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
GOALS ACHIEVED IN THE FIRST WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Work ergonomically while attending to the residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Working according to ethical guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Applying resource-focused, evidence-based gerontological nursing and home care skills and competence to work in the client’s home and in home-style settings<\/p>\n\n\n\n Consider the significance of life history, diversity, and multiculturalism in the mentoring, care, and guidance of elderly people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Using rehabilitative nursing techniques and expertise while working as a patient’s responsible nurse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Understood nursing responsibilities and duties in the assessment and administration of safe medication therapy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" My gerontology internship started with an introduction where I was introduced to the unit, nurses and the residents.
