Roles of Manager in Different Working Communities

Interpersonal

Our workplace has a low level of organization, so there are not many managers. In principle, all employees are responsible for the company’s values and principles, but of course the manager has the greatest responsibility. I would also consider a good interpersonal manager to be someone who is able to inspire employees to perform better.

Information

In our organization, managers have the responsibility that relevant reports are up-to-date and all necessary information is available to employees. The manager’s task is also to be the bearer of the message between the company’s board and the employees, i.e. the manager ensures that the strategy defined by the board is followed by the employee.

Decisionnal

In our organization, the decision-making role of the manager is emphasized especially in financial matters, how well the costs of the projects stay within the budgeted amount and how well the projects stay on schedule. The manager also has the responsibility to ensure that the employees have sufficient tools for the high-quality execution of projects.

STEP 2

I have no managerial experience, so it is difficult to assess my own managerial skills. I think that as a manager I am approachable and I know how to listen to employees. Although making compromises is a challenge for me, I think i can handle it and compromise on my own decisions if necessary. A development target as a supervisor can be, for example, intervening in the activities of employees in negative matters. I would rate myself a 6.

Team Maneger

Chat with employees and be interested in their views and opinions. It is important that at the workplace the projects are handled as a team until completion and that the workload of no team member becomes too large and on the other hand that no one’s workload is too light.

Informative manager

Keep your employees up to date on things happening in your organization and in the field. The important thing is good documentation and reporting. In addition to providing good information, the manager`s task is to create a culture of good team discussion.

Chief executive officer

Explain things very thoroughly. The manager must be able to take responsibility for decisions even if it turns out later that the decision was not correct. You have to be able to set an example for your employees and also admit your mistakes.

STEP 3

B)

transactional vs. transformative leadership style

In our organization, the management style has traditionally been knowledge-based, where the support of the supervisor has been the sharing of information. In recent years, a transactional management style has emerged in our organization, where the strategy of our organization is decided at the management level and the employees are directed to implement this chosen line. The downside here is that it doesn’t motivate employees in the best possible way.

authoritarian – democratic – laissez faire style

You could say that the management style is quite authoritarian, although of course employees are included in strategy workshops and similar events.

    coaching leadership style

In my opinion, there is no tradition of coaching management style in our organization. Traditionally, in our organization, supervisors have had their own areas of work responsibility, which their subordinates have been supporting with their own work contribution. The management of supervisors has therefore been quite a lot related to work-related technical matters.

    servant leadership style

The leadership style in our organization primarily serves to serve the implementation of the chosen strategy, and it does not serve much for the employee’s development or opportunities for influence.

    C)

I would estimate that there is a lot to improve in my own management skills, just because of the lack of management experience. Based on the personality test, I am more introverted than extroverted, which is not necessarily an advantage in management work

However, in my opinion, the most important qualities of a leader are honesty and a good relationship of trust. However, these things are where I think I can do well as a leader. In my opinion, the development target as a leader is interaction skills and the ability to give feedback. I think giving feedback to subordinates is one of the most important things. I believe my own management style is transformative. In my opinion, the best results are achieved when subordinates have the opportunity to influence their own work, of course the job description must be clear enough for the employees.
