Summary of social media tools in the Work of an Assistant Nurse Manager

Digital tools are becoming more important in the work of an assistant nurse manager, because they support communication, work organisation and development of healthcare services. In this learning assignment, I evaluate the use of Miro, Monday, WhatsApp, Doodle and ChatGPT in the assistant nurse manager’s work and describe the benefits of digital applications in leadership work.

Miro is a visual collaboration tool that can be used especially in development meetings and brainstorming situations. It helps to organise processes, collect staff ideas and support multiprofessional teamwork. The visual way of working makes it easier to understand bigger wholes. However, not all employees are familiar with this kind of digital tools, which can make the use more challenging.

Monday is a project management tool that can be used to follow development tasks, projects and responsibilities. It increases transparency of work and helps with time management and prioritising tasks. On the other hand, the tool needs training and it does not fit all daily nursing work processes.

WhatsApp is used as a fast communication tool, especially in acute situations such as sudden shift changes. Its main advantage is that it is easy to use and already familiar for most staff members, which makes communication faster. However, data protection and the blurring of work and free time are important challenges when using WhatsApp.

Doodle is a simple tool for scheduling meetings and trainings. It saves time and makes it easier for staff to participate. However, the use of Doodle is quite limited and it is not suitable for wider work planning.

ChatGPT can be used in the assistant nurse manager’s work for drafting texts such as announcements, reports and different kind of documents. It can also help to generate development ideas. ChatGPT can save time, but its use requires critical thinking and attention to data protection. It should be seen as a supporting tool, not as an expert.

Personal Reflection

Doing this learning assignment increased my understanding of how digital tools can be used in many ways in the work of an assistant nurse manager. I realised that digital applications are not only technical tools, but they also support leadership, communication and staff involvement.

This assignment helped me to understand that digital tools must be used in the right situations. Not every tool is suitable for all purposes, and their use requires consideration. I also realised that in the role of an assistant nurse manager it is important to support staff when new tools are introduced and to take different digital skills into account.

I also reflected on my own role as a user of digital tools. Digital solutions can make everyday work easier and free time for leadership and supporting patient care, but they also require responsible use. Especially data protection and staff well-being must be considered. I feel that developing my digital competence is an important part of my professional growth as an assistant nurse manager.
