I work as a supervisor in a nursing home. I use different digital platforms in my work every day. I could say that my work consists of utilizing digital tools. Of course, my job also involves talking and interacting with people, but almost every job requires a program or system.

I use a shift planning system, personnel management system, health systems, patient information system, ordering systems and many others that kind of systems on a daily basis. I couldn’t imagine doing my work with pen and paper, as it was done more than twenty years ago.

Digitization and artificial intelligence have made my work easier in many ways. For example, there is an artificial intelligence-based solution for planning work shifts.

We currently use Instagram at our workplace. We publish interesting content in Instagram, the purpose of which is to create a positive image for the relatives of our residents, as well as for other people.

I myself often make posts on Instagram where I use colors and create a happy atmosphere. I have received positive feedback from these pictures. In Finland, the care industry has been a bad reputation for a long time, so I think creating a positive image is very important. Due to digitalization, this can be easily influenced nowadays.

I choose LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Atso (Attendo Some).

I haven’t never using LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a networking service where users can write posts for their followers. I believe that using it, I could increase my own contacts, while telling about my own work. I think that with the help of Linkedin I can get perspectives on my own work from other users and at the same time I can stay up-to-date on things regarding the field.

TikTok is really foreing to me. I know that there is so much fanny videos, but also important things on their video’s. Maybe one day I could post videos on tiktok about my own work day, or my employees days. By updating the channels favored by young people, even the workforce could be directed to the industry.

I’m familiar with YouTube, but I’ve never posted anything there. It would be interesting to make videos about everyday life in a nursing home and get thousands of followers. On the other hand, this also involves security issues. We cannot photograph residents without permission. Privacy must be protected. It is difficult to make extensive videos from a elderlycare home, because often the videos would still show the residents of the house.

Facebook is very common website all over the world. My workplace has its own Facebook page, but I have never posted anything there myself. I could very well use Facebook to support recruitment, for example. I could also post content related to different employees’ job descriptions there to increase interest in the jobs.

I work at Attendo and we have our very own social media channel, ATSO (Attendo Some). I should make more use of ATSO for networking and creating a positive spirit. Nowadays, I have read about current issues there and followed the organization’s communication, but I should increase my own activity.

When it’s successful, the use of social media increases a good atmosphere and reputation. In addition, it makes it possible to network and increase knowledge about many things. However, you should be very careful if you post something on social media. For example, privacy protection must be taken into account very carefully.

When we are caring for elderly people, it is important to take care of their privacy, because they may not be able to do it themselves. It is the employee’s responsibility that privacy is taken into account on social media. We are very particular about this, at our workplace.

I chose the social media channels above, because I have always been bad at using social media. I’m starting from the beginning when it comes to social media. I have never kept a blog or familiarized myself with the challenges of social media, so the things learned in the course have been important lessons in terms of future working life.

I think that successfully using different social media requires reasonably good IT skills, as well as background knowledge about internet security. You may not be as brave to make publications on the internet without experience in the functioning of the internet and different channels. Using social media, requires skill and interest, as well as an understanding of it’s effects.

This assignment helped me realize that I haven’t been a very active user of social media. Although I have used Facebook and Instagram in my personal life, but I haven’t been able to use them enough in my worklife. I would need more training and time to learn, how to use the opportunities offered by social media.
