My learning goals

WHO AM I

My name is Kingsley from Nigeria and am enthusiastic about travelling, caring for people, and putting smiles on the faces of people in the field of health care by always supporting and caring for them the right way.

I have heard couple of Nursing internship at the university of Nicosia as a Nursing student before I moved to Finland to get a Masters degree in Toxicology and Environmental health risk Assessment. So the working life and daily practice of a student Nurse is not new to me but I believe every place comes with a new experience.

WHAT KIND OF A LEARNER AM I

I see myself to be an active learner and also, I really like to learn by practicing. Am quick to ask questions when am either confused about a task or an application I do not understand.

LEARNING SKILLS.

I am eager to gather more skills from the clinical practice by applying what I have studied in school and with the experience I have gathered in the years, also by listening, watching, and taking corrections from my mentor at practice all the time.

I hope to achieve this goals by applying all evidence-based practice through my period of internship with the help of my mentor nurse and other nurses at the workplace.

ETHICAL KNOWLEDGE AND PROFESSIONALITY:

Level of competence: I acquainted myself  with the values and principles of nursing care/profession. I am easily accessible to new people and my strength is being social in new situations and try to calm the situation down in an unfriendly environment. “

How to achieve goals: “I want to become a professional who, despite the patient’s behavior, remains self-contained and professional. This is why I want to be involved in a variety of challenging listening situations. I need realistic feedback about my  working with patient from my mentor nurse and other nurses”

CLINICAL SKILLS:

At the school I have been training to work ergonomically.  During the simulated nursing scenarios and procedures, I have done my possible best to follow all procedures set aside by the teachers and ethically.

I hope to achieve this goal by reminding  myself of ergonomic during the patient care. Also, I hope my mentor nurse to guide me how to work ergonomically in different situations and give me feedback.”

TEACHING AND GUIDANCE:

As a nursing assistant, I have practiced guiding patients and their relatives. I have been guided with the use of various aseptic techniques , patient guidance, catheter insertion and nursing interventions.

I would like to achieve this goal by listening to both the patient and his/her family members, in other to be able to give the best practice that I have been able to gain from school.

PATIENT SAFETY AND QUALITY OF SOCIAL AND HEALTH CARE SERVICES:

Maintaining the safety of the physical, psychological, and social safety of the clients or colleagues has always been the core value of my working life. Is ben known I will get my self acquainted with all the safety procedures and protocols, railings, and emergency spots.

My goal is to learn to anticipate incidents in different work environments and pay attention to patient safety. I hope i can discuss with my supervisor what matters are important to each patient and I will independently seek more information regarding patient safety in nursing care. 

WORKING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE:

I find myself working well with all kinds of people, even though at first, I may appear to be quiet but with time I tend to open up and give my best.

My goal is to be part of the nursing staff. This internship will give me good possibilities to learn to work in a Finnish nursing environment. There are a lot of new things for me to learn, working with nursing staff is one of them. I look forward to it.

    Based on your description, you recognize the ethical challenges of nursing care and are able to act even in professionally challenging situations.

    CLINICAL SKILLS
    It is good that you are aware of what is needed for professional and manual development.
    During the first week of practice, you can discuss with the tutor nurse how you can implement example things below.
    Practices using the ABCDE method to assess a client’s / patient’s condition.
    Identifies the client’s / patient’s basic nutrition, daily functioning, and need for care.
    Able to help the patient with daily activities.

    If you can fill in the eMedication passport example these things.
    2.3.3 Delivery of medication care
    The student masters the correct portioning of drugs to patient-specific doses. The student takes into consideration the patient’s safety while delivering medication care. The student verifies that the client/patient has taken the medicine.
    2.3.3.1 Medication administration via natural route
    The student administers medicines orally (tablets and oral liquids)
    2.3.3.2 Medication administration through injections
    The student administers a subcutaneous injection

    TEACHING AND GUIDANCE
    You already have hands-on experience with patient guidance and you can take advantage of this in this exercise. However, you must also know the Finnish language in order to guide clients.

    PATIENT SAFETY AND THE QUALITY OF SOCIAL AND HEALTH SERVICES:
    You recognize the importance of patient safety and the role of the nurse in promoting patient safety, very good.

    WORKING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE
    You have a good attitude and motivation so you are sure to succeed and fit into the work community. Practice the Finnish language as much as possible. I believe you will do your best to learn the Finnish language
