I work as a public health nurse in secondary education school. I have a total of about 700 students from different fields. My main task is to conduct health examinations for students. Another part of my work is collective work with a group, such as the whole class or the educational institution community. That work we colleagues do together and share shifts.
Students can reach me by phone during the daily phone hours. On the phone, they can make appointments or ask for advice. I use the OMNI 360 application the most. OMNI 360 is a new generation service platform and product family to produce healthcare services. That platform includes example health history, growth tracking, and vaccination details. I will write health report notes there. That platform I use daily. Microsoft Outlook and Teams I use or communication and consulting with colleagues. Wilma is a tool through which I communicate with students and with teachers. In my work the welfare area decides which tools can be used at work. The security of tools is the basis for their decision. As single worker I cannot make decisions at that level.

All student’s still do not have bank identification codes because they are not old enough. But they can get mobile certificate. Using that they could make appointments 24/7. This option would free up phone service for personal counselling. Students could use also many other electronic services like Kela or OmaKanta. Mobile certification is also maybe more safety because when user do not need to reveal bank account numbers.
Students use WhatsApp extensively. Regarding health information, data protection limits usage. A quite useful application in everyday planning such as appointment bookings and call requests. That’s also free application for user. In the future, however, it will include advertising. It must be noted carefully. WhatsApp offers the possibility to create groups. There you can easily create a survey for example about a suitable health check-up time for students. WhatsApp could be also easy and quick way to reach students.

With this course, I have become enthusiastic about writing a blog could write and publish current issues relevant to my work. For example, an issue that is timely in my work at the beginning of the year is health examinations for conscription-aged individuals. Examining issues related to the matter could also increase students’ interest in it. The marketing of the blog would of course play a big role. Blog The reaches a large audience at once. Writing blog is not tied to time or place. But as a professional, it should however be done during work hours.
I have gotten my work always quite easily and without significant self-promotion. But now situation is positively different. With my studies, a possibility opens for me to apply for new types of jobs. I could showcase my skills to the job market there for to a significantly large user group. There was an article in the medical magazine where one doctor highlighted and praised my project for the development of student health care. With LinkedIn, I could introduce myself and my skills and share my contact information. Article’s mention “health nurse from Kuopio” do not say enough for to interested persons.

When I wrote earlier those tools, I stopped to notice how few tools we have available for working with young students. My main job is to hold receptions for students. The design of the application considers its user and target audience. The application’s user interface is user-friendly. The use of the application should provide benefits to the user. Application Users do not need to doubt user safety. Data protection and application update information are clearly visible. Several users are waiting for the tool to help solve the problem.

I am always on guard when anyone shares anything on social media. I always try to remember think why the information has been published and why just now? It is same when I read newspapers. I think that it is important attitude to estimate tools.
What colour is social media? I think that something yellow, green, white or pink. Mostly people share positive information on social media. On the other hand, that is the intention. It’s worth it. Readers or followers do not want to read about failures or dark matters. In professional communication it’s important what and how write. We always represent the employer.
Who owns tool? There are familiar big names among the owners of the tools. As important thing to understand and accept. Tools are owner’s new published newspaper. In future do we need so many different tools. Inside everyone there will be AL or someone else.
This course has reminded me well of how far the development of tools and the field of social media has come. At our daily work we use those tools differently and to different purpose. We have several tools to choose the best one.
