KELA

It is recommended that you log in and identify yourself in the Oma Kela system using a mobile certificate, because it is the most secure option. These days I rarely log in to Kela services. Now it’s time to take care of the university student health care fee. Also, I don’t have a European Health Care Card, so I’m getting it.

Years ago, when I was studying for my first degree, I was entitled to, among other things, housing benefit and study grant, which are administered through Kela.

OMA KANTA

A national online service where you can see your own health information. It is recommended to always log in via the omakanta.fi website and with a mobile certificate. I have made an organ donation through this. In general, I don`t use this system very often, the last time I used the service was a year ago. I use the service mainly to renew prescriptions and check my own information. My own care will be entered into the system in the future.

PENSION

I can check the earnings of related pension I have accrued so far on Keva’s website through the my pension information service. I have not accrued any pension for the work I did when I was under 23. The pension I have accrued now is still far too little and I should be able to work for twenty years more. The longer you continue in your work, the bigger your pension will be. But it is also worth preparing for the future in other ways than just waiting for pension accrual.

Attention. You should take care of your own information when logging into online services. Even now, there are scam messages appearing in the name of Keva’s customer service.

BOOKING.COM

I use this app very actively and have been satisfied with the service. I do a lot of price comparisons before making an actual decision and I have made many reservations through this app. I usually go to this app first and then I check prices directly on the hotel websites, for example. In addition, the Genius customer program rewards users depending on how many trips and reservations they make. On the other hand, I was last in Copenhagen, so it was much cheaper to book a hotel directly through the hotel’s own website.

Do we have official travel agencies in Finland anymore, or are all the bookings made online these days? I remember when I was a child, my parents and I go to a travel agency and talk to the clerk about where we should go, and then we just book a trip to the sun. It was the easiest way then 😊

SKILLHIVE (one service from my own field)

I chose Skillhive, because it`s a digital platform where employees can present their own skills or, for example, search for the expertise they need within the organization. Skillhive enables collaboration between experts, sharing of expertise, and can be utilized in internal recruitment and provides an opportunity for onboarding new employees. It is also a tool used to assist in development discussions.

Personally, I use Skillhive to showcase my skills, experience, and educational background to the entire organization. The good thing about it is, that the entire organization can see which projects I have worked on. I have also used it for job rotation, meaning I have expressed what kind of tasks I would be interested in the future.

The challenge with Skillhive is that not everyone uses it actively and its potential has not been fully utilized overall.

DIGITALIZATION AND DIGITAL GAP

People who are outside of digitalization are facing real challenges already now and even more in the future. All services are online. Secure login and identification to online services require a mobile certificate or bank IDs. If you don’t have them, it is completely impossible to log in to Kela services, for example. Small towns are also losing banking services, which is a challenge for many elderly people. Tight financial resources are driving services online. It is completely impossible for a person who does not have digital capabilities to utilize, for example, remote doctor’s appointment services.

I also have people in my close circle who don’t even own a smartphone, so it’s impossible to do things remotely. If you don’t even have a car, it really makes it difficult to do things. However, in life, unexpected things can always happen.

If, for example, parents and children live in different locations, a video call would allow you to see that the parents are doing well. You could also send pictures to loved ones via WhatsApp, as sending pictures via text message seems to be a charge.

Artificial intelligence also brings its own challenges and opportunities. Primary school children are already actively using AI, and it is a big challenge for teachers. Expert organizations should already be fully equipped to use AI, but I believe that its full potential has not yet been exploited.

SELF EVALUATION

Kela and Oma Kanta logging in and using these systems are very familiar. But I’ve completely missed the European Health Care Card, so I need to get it as soon as possible. Making a care will was also a good reminder, because it’s important to influence your own future when you’re no longer here one day.

Digitality is part of our everyday life, and it enables many things. It is easy to make flight and accommodation reservations online and it enables extensive price comparison. But on the other hand, comparison also takes a lot of time. But on the other hand digitality brings a lot of cost savings, if you have time to search things in the wonderful world of the internet and compare costs.

There may be also scam attempts through the platform s and systems, so it is good to be aware of the security risks with these functions as well.
