DIGI SOCIETY

I have worked for little over ten years as a radiographer in a public hospital. During these ten years technology has developed tremendously. As a radiographer we need to have the skills to develop our competence because of the huge steps technology takes every year. It effects patient systems that we use daily, the equipment and the protocols that we use to get the pictures taken from a patient. There have been great developments in radiation technology, and it is constantly changing because of the new technology that is been invented. AI is also one thing that is coming to help us and the growing patient amount. AI has been developed the whole time so that it would help radiologist with their reports, but it hasn’t yet superseded them.  Looking forward everything that new findings and technology gives us in the future!

Open digital society has both opportunities and risk especially when considering data protection.  The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) established rules with the aim at addressing risks in handling of personal data within EU and EEA.

In my personal life GDPR has made me more aware of data privacy rights and the importance of protecting my personal information online. I have started to pay closer attention to the collection of data online and started being more cautious when sharing my personal information online.

The GDPR has a big impact on my work everyday because in health care we must handle personal data of patients. For health care it means implementing stricter data protection measures, such as obtaining explicit consent for data collection, implementing data encryption and security protocols, and appointing data protection officers.

The positive sides of GDPR: people have more control over their own data, organizations must be transparent about their data processes and inform people how their data is being used and organization is accountable for data breaches which increases organizations to prioritize data protection.

GDPR has also negative sides. It cost money to implement GDPR rules and policies to organizations. This may not be such a big problem for large companies who already have the resources in complementing GDPR, but it effects more to the small and medium size businesses. GDPR is also complex, and it has extensive requirements that can be hard to handle. GDPR impose challenges to organizations, but it also plays a crucial role in safeguarding people’s privacy rights in an increasingly digitized world.

I asked ChatGPT few questions about radiographers work and how can AI help radiographers at their work? ChatGPT explained the radiographers work well and it had the knowledge about the different aspects of our work.  It pointed out great ways how AI can be used in radiography and there were also some points that is already been used at our department, but some were new. Overall conclusion was that AI has the potential to revolutionize radiography practices by augmenting radiographers’ capabilities, improving efficiency, enhancing diagnostic accuracy, and ultimately advancing patient care.

I think AI has the possibilities to help people in different kind of ways, but it has also risk that must be aware. It can help people at their work and studies and help people have the information what they need or want. The information that you get from AI must be treated with caution and notice the fact that it may not be correct information.

Technology is an ongoing process that is developing in a huge pace. I learned that I must be more aware about the threads that we can meet when we share our personal information online and pay more attention to it. This also effects my professional life and notice that all the security concerning the data handling at work must be taken seriously.

  1. Hi Laura,

I get confused again and again how much artificial intelligence is used in healthcare when I get to know your other students’ blogs and these tests.

However, it’s amazing how technology has developed and how much we can use it in many different jobs and fields.

  2. I appreciated your reflection on the impact of the data protection regulation on the work of a radiographer, and I agree with you on the potential of artificial intelligence as well as the possible problems and errors it may cause.
