My job

I work in a psychiatric department where voluntary treatment is provided. In my work, I use the patient information system pegasos-omni360. In Pegasos, we make daily records of patients’ well-being and matters related to their treatment. In my work, we maintain networks with patients’ outpatient care workers. The networks are implemented remotely via Microsoft teams. I also use e-mail in my work.

Review the use of Social Media from both positive and negative side

The positive aspects of social media are rarely highlighted. The news coverage is mainly negative. Social media connects different people. People find e.g. people who like the same things from different discussion boards. With the help of the algorithm, you can also recommend different pages and groups based on your interests. Social media can also be inspiring and fun. You can get peer support and also find friends on social media.

The most negative thing about social media is bullying. Today, bullying takes place online in various applications. In various applications, a person can appear by name or anonymously. Some users also make fake users. I have also read in the news when people are cheated of large sums of money via the Internet. In social media, your privacy can be threatened. When using the Internet, you have to remember what is a reliable source and what is not. Even false information spreads very quickly. Social media may also have effects on sleep patterns, mental health disorders and reduce face-to-face contact.

Instagram

It is a service for sharing pictures and videos among users, other of which users can like or leave a comment. On Instagram, our Department’s activities could be opened up more. We could make a presentation video of our department there, take a picture and tell you what our day is like.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a bulletin board-type image sharing service. From there you can search for images related to any category. If our workplace had a tablet to use with patients, we could use pinterest in our workshop operations or create a new group where, for example, you could tell about your health with a picture. On Pinterest you can also find coloring pictures, sudokus, etc. that can be printed for patients.

Blogger

Blogger is a simple blogging service. When I was in middle school, I kept a blog on Blogger for a few years. I would see Blogger as a good writing platform in my work at the moment. We could use it as a diary.

Facebook

Facebook is a community service where it is possible to join various communities and get information about future services. When you have created an account for yourself, you can share the things you want on your own wall or in groups by making a publication. The publication can be made as text, image or video. On Facebook, we could create an account in the department’s name. We could look for groups there where the patients we have could visit on behalf of the department to provide peer support or share their own views and experiences related to the matter.

Youtube

Youtube is a video service where users can add videos there. You can also comment on videos as a user. We already use YouTube for listening to music at my workplace. You can also find various instructions on YouTube, e.g. for doing breathing exercises, yoga movements, crafts that I could use to my advantage at my workplace.

Evaluate what are the elements of successful use of digital application?

The application is easy to use and takes over the user with its content. The visuality of the site is also a feature that attracts users.

Self evaluation

While doing this task, I learned to recognize the good aspects of social media, which are rarely brought up in the media. Social media is such a normal thing for me that I haven’t thought about the good aspects. More negative things. The task where I thought about using applications at work was interesting. In the case of some applications, the imagination took over and some of the invented things will certainly not be implemented. In addition to these applications, there were also many other interesting applications that could be used.
