My current job and use of different digital tools. What tools do I use?
I am a registered nurse by profession and currently work as a deputy ward manager in the hospital’s in the Vantaa and Kerava well-being area. In addition to my human resources management responsibilities, I also engage in patient care development and serve as a quality assurance provider.
The digitalization of healthcare has evolved significantly over the decades. The 2000s and 2010’s saw the introduction of entirely new types of systems, such as mobile applications.
Technological advancements have enabled a digital approach in my work as a nurse. For instance, paper forms have been replaced with electronic online services, meaning that the processing process can be automated or digitized. I also utilize mobile technology in my work. I utilize technology in my work in various ways, such as ensuring the secure transfer of patient information between different healthcare providers. This timely transfer of patient information promotes patient safety.
As a nurse, part of my role involves encouraging and supporting patients in utilizing electronic services, as well as understanding and acquiring knowledge about the significance of health information in patient self-care. For example, technology serves as an effective tool in coordinating patients’ care. In my work, I utilize a variety of digital tools, including: electronic patient records, transmitting patient health information online (for instance, when arranging home care upon discharge), and various assistive devices. I also employ electronic prescriptions, referrals, and databases. Additionally, I monitor patient-related laboratory and imaging information systems, as well as various electronic appointments for follow-up care and during the treatment period.
In my work, I also make some use of Terveyskylä, a public online service produced by specialized healthcare that provides tools, information, support, and treatment for both professionals and patients. Terveyskylä can be accessed by computer, tablet, or phone and is always open. TerveyskyläPRO is designed for healthcare professionals. It complements their expertise and encourages them to adopt new practices in their work. The service includes, for example, e-learning tools and clinical work guides.
Five new tools of Social Media
Social media has a profound impact on various aspects of our society, particularly in the realm of healthcare. Through social networking sites, blogs, and diverse forums, individuals can more readily access health information and obtain the care they require.
The Role of Social Media in Healthcare
Social media has become one of the most popular channels for healthcare providers to communicate with patients and promote health. In healthcare, the primary benefit of social media lies in its ability to disseminate information. It empowers organizations to share findings, research, health tips, and recommendations. Among the benefits of social media in healthcare is its ability to foster positive relationships with patients. Nowadays, patients can make inquiries or book appointments online.
LinkedIn enables me to identify users who have uploaded their resumes, hobbies, and interests to the platform, allowing me to find potential employees for the Vantaa and Kerava well-being area. Additionally, I can utilize LinkedIn to expand my network and find the candidates I seek. From my perspective as a Deputy Ward Manager, I find it beneficial to have an up-to-date LinkedIn profile for potential applicants. I have realized that LinkedIn is an excellent tool for job searching and networking. I installed it on my work phone myself and started exploring it to find suitable candidates for our team. I noticed that not having an updated LinkedIn profile made it difficult to find applicants. However, I realized that LinkedIn doesn’t work for everyone, and some individuals have either opted out or remain outside the platform. For instance, I was searching for potential nursing assistants, but I noticed that LinkedIn seems to function better for those with higher educational qualifications. I found a significant number of registered nurses on LinkedIn, but far fewer nursing assistants.
I have used Facebook in my youth as a private person, but never before in the role of an employee. I downloaded Facebook on my work phone, but not under my own name. I realized that Facebook allows companies to post job openings, share positive information about the organization, and tell employee stories to encourage others to apply for jobs there. Following my organization’s Facebook page provides insights into the different units, which in turn increases my interest in applying for a job there. From a recruitment perspective, I observed that simply liking images and posts shared by the company may not be sufficient for recruitment. The job seeker needs to take an active role by enabling notifications to avoid missing out on job postings shared on Facebook. In my view, a positive aspect is that Facebook allows users to enable notifications to avoid missing out on job postings shared on the platform. However, the downside is that this results in notifications for all posts shared by the company, which I believe makes it difficult to track job postings that are genuinely relevant.
I downloaded Instagram on my work phone, but I use the organization’s official account. In my opinion, using Instagram for work can strengthen the organization’s brand and provide information to users, including potential job seekers. I believe that utilizing Instagram for work allows for interaction with potential job seekers, current employees, and customers. Through Instagram, my workplace gains increased visibility and the opportunity to stand out from competitors.

From the perspective of the organization where I work, I believe it is crucial to prioritize responsibility and ethics when using Instagram. In my opinion, it is essential to be highly selective about the target audience for marketing efforts. There is a risk that posts may easily be misleading and not entirely truthful.
TikTok
The organization I work for utilizes the TikTok app, and I believe it is well-suited as a corporate communication channel. Through content, the organization can spark interest, build relationships with potential job seekers, and even entertain. In my work, I can utilize TikTok to some extent for recruiting new employees, developing my organization’s workplace employer brand, and generating content that may attract potential viewers. On TikTok, you can track metrics like views, likes, and shares for specific posts, allowing me in my work to influence how TikTok can be used to improve recruitment, for example. I can utilize TikTok in my work because it allows me to create content for my organization’s business account. The costs are also minimal. The TikTok app is a bit unfamiliar to me, but I have certainly seen it used extensively for business marketing and recruitment.
After exploring TikTok for business resources, I’ve identified some drawbacks of using the TikTok app for my work. The app’s functionality is largely based on the ‘For You’ page and its algorithm, which means not all content will necessarily reach a large audience. Additionally, it requires patience, as a single video may not immediately drive business growth. I also find the ever-changing trends on TikTok to be a challenge. They are popular among users and fluctuate rapidly, requiring businesses to stay up-to-date on trending content and create tailored content for their target audience accordingly. This, of course, takes time.
From my perspective, the benefits of using WhatsApp for work can be attributed to its functionalities. It enables communication and both voice and video calls. Audio messages can also be sent to other individuals. For my work, it would expedite the sharing of documents, images, audio recordings, and contact information. WhatsApp’s features also include group creation, allowing for the simultaneous sending of the same message to all group members, saving time.

Which tools you chose and why?
I chose LinkedIn because, although I have a LinkedIn profile myself, I hadn’t realized how useful LinkedIn is as a job search platform. I wanted to explore how LinkedIn works for recruitment and job hunting, which I believe would also be highly beneficial for my work. LinkedIn focuses on networking. For job seekers, being active on LinkedIn, having a broad network, and belonging to groups can be very advantageous. I was also intrigued by the fact that inviting strangers to one’s network is not as personal as it is on many other social media platforms. Additionally, users can showcase their expertise by highlighting their skills and experience.
I chose Facebook because, from a work perspective, I had never utilized it in any way. I set out to explore how I could leverage Facebook for my work and discovered that it is undoubtedly a more challenging channel for job postings and recruitment. Facebook appears to be more of a leisure and marketing tool rather than a recruitment platform.
I chose Instagram because even though I have my own personal Instagram account, I was completely unfamiliar with how to use it for work. I realized that Instagram can be used within our organization to strengthen the organization’s brand and to interact with potential new applicants and for recruitment purposes. I even tried it myself.
I chose TikTok because it is completely foreign to me in every way, but I wanted to see if I could use it in any way for my work. I realized that I can also use TikTok to some extent in my work to increase the organization’s visibility. This can help to make the organization more attractive for recruitment or to showcase good things about our organization.
I have never used WhatsApp in previous workplaces, and I have never been able to use it for work in any way. However, I had the opportunity to try out the app this time around. I realized that I can only use it to send pictures and create groups that allow for simultaneous conversation with multiple people

For instance, users may have disabilities or functional limitations, making it essential to consider the needs of various user groups. In my opinion, the most crucial element of a fluent digital application is user-centricity. It must remain easy to use and provide users with an enjoyable experience.
