REFLECTION ON VIDEOS
Big Data & IoT: After watching these videos I realized that we have the ability to process a huge amount of information, which gives us valuable information about what is happening, but not necessarily why. Big data allows us to benefit from monitoring various vital things, but it also has a dark side. Will machines make decisions instead of humans in the future? And what will happen to privacy?
Cyber Security: Email, anyone can read it. Yet encryption, the technology that protects the privacy of email communication, does exist. The demo to present by Andy Yen of an email program that provides default email protection for all users was very fascinating to me.
Data protection reform: The GDPR is a new European data protection and security law that sets new requirements for organizations around the world. The law contains important and useful information. I recommend that you familiarize yourself with it.
Future Visions: The topics of the video were very fascinating and quite unfamiliar to me. Flying copters and robots seem very alien to me in terms of my field, but they are certainly very applicable in the construction industry and many other areas. The idea of different robotic systems and humans working side by side in a futuristic way still seems like a very distant thought to me. I believe that technology changes and develops constantly without me even noticing
DIGITALIZATION
I have been a nurse for nearly fifteen years. My work experience is very extensive. I have worked in primary and specialist healthcare. I am currently in a new position as an assistant ward manager. Through my own work history, I have seen how digitalisation has had a significant impact on my work and is also visible in my work in different ways than before. With digitalisation, clinical errors are reduced (e.g. those related to medication and diagnoses). It also supports healthcare professionals (e.g. in terms of up-to-date information and timeliness), streamlines care (e.g. by reducing patient waiting times) and, at best, even improves the quality of care.
With the growth and competitiveness of the healthcare sector, the emphasis in the future will be on service production that is preventive, personalized and cost-effective. Furthermore, this can be promoted by utilizing digital technology and by collecting efficient health data. In the healthcare sector, work is also dependent on technology and digital tools.
Currently, the healthcare sector faces constant challenges due to the shortage of staff and recruitment challenges, so operations must therefore be able to change. This usually requires transforming digital solutions or finding new innovative solutions.
In my opinion, in the future, customer-oriented services, smooth digital interaction and easy findability will meet the growing customer service needs in the healthcare sector. In the future, smooth daily work and a good employee experience will be enabled by easy-to-use digital tools, automation and competent support services.
Cost-effectiveness and productivity will be improved by utilizing collected data and new technology opportunities. It makes sense to strive to produce and organize most services digitally and profitably. Digitalization will be utilized to an increasing extent in my work at the Vantaa and Kerava welfare area. In my opinion, digitalization is being used more and more in life in general. In my work, this is reflected in the fact that the role of digital and remote services for customer groups is being increased as part of the service range. Technology is used to support customers and professionals.
EVALUATE THE RISKS OF OPEN DIGITAL SOCIETY
When using digital technologies, it is important to be aware of risk management and that it affects all members of society. It is important to be aware of different types of risks, such as one’s own or an organisation’s digital illiteracy, weak risk management, external phishing, fake websites, cyber attacks, etc. The consequences of these can be faced by everyone who operates in digital environments. The ability to identify problem situations and act correctly, even proactively, should be developed as both citizen skills and workplace skills at different levels of organisations. The use of various digital services is very common among citizens.
The risks of an open digital society include:
- Receiving phishing or scam emails.
- misinformation
- Being targeted by a scam call, for example on messaging apps.
- Falling victim to identity theft.
- Losing your personal information / money.
THE EU’s GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR)
The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was implemented on May 25, 2018. The GDPR has enhanced individuals’ data protection rights and provided EU data protection authorities with additional means to address data protection law infringements.
Five years ago, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) introduced an obligation for organizations to notify data protection authorities of data breaches involving personal data. This change improved people’s rights, as organizations previously had no obligation to notify individuals affected by data breaches. Access to this information can enable people to protect themselves against misuse of their personal data, for example by changing their passwords.
In my organization, we have industry-specific data protection and/or privacy officers who advise on compliance with data protection regulations and act as contact persons for matters related to the processing of personal data.
The GDPR affects my work life in that my employer can only process personal data that is directly necessary for the employment relationship, such as data related to the parties’ rights and obligations or the benefits offered by the employer, or that arises from the specific nature of the tasks. The necessity requirement cannot be deviated from even with the employee’s consent. This means that the employer cannot process any personal data concerning the employee. I consider this to be a positive thing, as it avoids unnecessary viewing/fishing of personal data from the employee.
CHAT GPT
I asked Chat GPT how digitalization affects the nursing field?
I received a response that digitalization enables the storage of patient data in electronic format, which improves care coordination and reduces errors. Doctors can provide remote consultations and care. This is beneficial in areas where healthcare is limited or patient mobility is difficult. With digitalization, patients can monitor their blood pressure, blood sugar, and activity using smartphone applications. Sharing data with healthcare professionals can help in early disease detection and management.
Chat GPT answered that digitalization is likely to significantly transform the work of nurses in the future in several ways:
More efficient information management: Digital patient record systems enable faster and more accurate information management. Nurses can more easily access patient data, record care interventions, and monitor patient status in real time, which streamlines the care process.
Remote care and telemedicine: Using digital platforms, nurses can provide remote care and consultations to patients, which enables a broader range of care and better patient accessibility. This can also reduce the need for physical appointments and save time and resources.
Self-care technology: Nurses can guide patients in using various healthcare technologies, such as smart devices and mobile applications, that allow patients to monitor their health and make independent decisions about their healthcare.
Big data and analytics: Collecting and analyzing digital patient data can help nurses better identify patient needs, anticipate health problems, and improve treatment plans to be more personalized and effective.
Machine learning and artificial intelligence: Artificial intelligence and machine learning can be used to assist nurses in tasks such as assessing patient risk, making diagnoses, and developing treatment plans.
Robotics and automation: In some situations, nurses may utilize robotics and automation to assist with certain tasks, such as medication dispensing, patient transferring, and equipment maintenance.
Self evaluation, what I have learn and what should I know more about:
Digitalization and its continuous development are things that we live around and we don’t always even notice the changing world around us. I have learned how digitalization and its continuous development make my own work as a nurse easier and even give many nurses new content and interest in their work. However, digitalization also brings with it challenges, and from my perspective, insecurity. Will I be able to keep up with everything and learn what the digital revolution requires?
