My current work and use of digital tools
I work as a team leader and a registered nurse in Wellbeing Services County of North Savo. My current working unit is short-term treatment ward in primary health care. At work, practically all information is nowadays in digital form and employees need to have variable skills to use those softwares and applications. Moreover in healthcare you need to pay attension to Information security, data protection, protection of privacy and general laws concerning patients rights.
Because I work for a big employer, It is mainly defining what kind of digital tools we are using at work. Example formal informing and contacting happens via work email, most of the meetings and trainig are executed by teams and all of the patient data is in digital form (Omni360). Osti is the program we use when ordering medicines. The programme also provides new information on pharmacological treatments and pharmacys operation. Employees need to take care of their medical licenses and other regular licenses, which will be implemented via LOVe- and Moodle-training environment. There is also own digital softwares which are used to example for rota planning, apply for training, absence reports and development discussion (eTitania, OSS, ESS). UOMA is used to control all patient movement at the area of WSCNS. Besides above mentioned, we have all kind of digital app’s we need to exercise when we use medical devices example EKG, CADD solis-infusion pump or Monidor-infusion app for mobilephone. At work, non-informal information is shared usually via WhatsApp. Sometimes we have used Youtube-videos to clarify some matters example usage of medical device.
Social media- benefits and pitfalls
Social media has become an essential part of the modern world and has a major impact on the daily lives of many people. Social media brings advantages but also disadvantages and it’s important to be aware of them when using it.
So what are the benefits? Social media is a great way to meet people globally and it can be accessed around the clock, so it can promote connectivity, create a sense of belonging and be helpful of selling and promoting products. Access to social media is usually free, although it does require some kind of device and internet connection. Social media can also help to stay up-to date with information, news, new jobs or latest education. You can use social media at work and in your free time, so you can use it in a variety of ways. At personal level you can use it to communicate with your family and friends, for example by sharing photos and memories with them. The advantage of social media is also that it has created entirely new professions such as bloggers or social media influencers.
The pitfalls of social media is often cited as a incerase in mental health problems. An ideal image of life or appearance created by social media can cause anxiety or mental health problems. Increased pressure on skilss or wealth can also have negative effect on well-being. One of the main drawback is data security problems and the leaking or deliberate dissemination of personal data to the public. It can cause great harm to the individual for years to come. Another downside of social media can be, that it can take too much time and attention away from real life issues. Different ages use social media differently, making it parent, for example, difficult to monitor their childrens media use, where they may see inapproproate content for their age. Older people can also face challenges in managing different digital environments, which can lead to misundersandings and abuse. It must also be taken account that nor everyone has access to social media, which can create inequialities and leade to exclusion and lack of information.
I thinks that the elements of succesful use of digital application arise from the above factors. When using social media, be aware of pitfalls such as data security issues and privacy protection. Don’t post anything too personal or information about another person without permission. But it’s good to remember that social media is useful and mainly about having fun when you know how to use it in the right way.
Tools of social media at my daily work
Many of the tools presented were unfamilliar to me, but it was interesting to get to know them even though most of them were not useful in a hospital ward. However, I could see myself taking advantage of future tool like ChatGPT, Linkedln, DeepL, Youtube and Issuu.
For me, ChatGPT was a great new AI-software at Digi Society assigment. The basic version is free and easy to use and it can be helpfull when I need to familiarise myself with a new issue. With ChatGPT I can get quickly a lot of information summarised in one place and it can help me to solve problems. It is usefull tool for everybody as long as you remember its limitations.
Linkedln is a familiar tool for me, but I’ve hardly used it at all. I have a profile there, but i could utilize the programme to build a larger network with other collegues and professionals in the fild. Linkedln also provides up-to-date information on news and the latest research from different actors. It can also be useful when looking for a job, which os a good addition to other things.
I had not heard of the DeepL before, but I think it is very usefull and easy way to translate even whole documents quicly. Manority of scientific articles and research is in english so this translator would definitely make reading more easy. It could also be helpful when reading or making guidance material in a different language, because it translates text into 32 languages. DeepL is definitely the software I will use in the future.
Youtube is well known application, but I think it is used more in leisure time. This assigment made me think, that I could make more use of it in my profession life in the future. Many medical and nursing companies offers guidance videos there that could be useful for practical work. Mayde it could also be used for student guidance or induction of the employees.
Issuu was a completely unknown digital solution to me, but I can see it being useful when I need to convert pdf documents into digital publications. Tool is free and it seemed to be easy to use. Another good feature was, that you can share your flipping digital publication on social networking sites example Google+ or Facebook. I think Issuu is versatile in different working environments, because it can be used to create a wide variety of content example brochures, books, reports, newsletters, edication contens and corporate documents.
Self evaluation
This task made me realise how many software and app’s there are that i hadn’t heard of. Maybe it’s partly because in the workplace the employer defines the software to be used, which I know is relevant for the data security. On the other hand, I don’t have much enthusiasm to follow or learn many social media platforms. In my free time I have mainly used Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Threads, so my experience of social media is pretty limited. Recently my studies have introduced me to canva and this course has again brought new and useful lessons on how to use the different software. This assigment was interesting and instructive, because I was introduces to platforms that I probably woudn’t have otherwise had access to anywhere. I was inspired by the assigment to explore different digital application in the future such as image and data processing.
