E-Platforms in My Work: Digital Tools, Social Media and Everyday Practice

Digitalization is a natural part of my daily work in education and leadership. I work in a field where communication, planning, sales and cooperation are all strongly supported by digital tools. In practice, my work would not function without them.

In my work, I use several digital tools on a daily basis. The most important ones are communication platforms such as email and Microsoft Teams, which enable fast and flexible communication with colleagues and students. Teams is especially important for meetings, remote collaboration and sharing materials.

A good example from my daily work is international cooperation. I am regularly in contact with partners abroad, and just yesterday I had a Teams meeting with partners in India. Digital tools make it possible to work across different countries and time zones almost as easily as working locally.

At the same time, I have noticed differences in how tools are used in different regions. In Finland, Microsoft Teams is clearly the most common platform for meetings and communication. However, in international cooperation, especially with partners in Africa and India, tools like Google Meet or Zoom are often preferred. This shows that even though digital tools connect us globally, there are still regional differences in how communication platforms are used.

I also use digital learning environments, where teaching materials, assignments and communication with students are organized. These platforms make it possible to support students regardless of time and place. In addition, different administrative systems are used for planning schedules, managing student information and organizing work tasks.

Digital tools also support international cooperation in a broader sense. Through online meetings and shared platforms, it is possible to collaborate with partners from different countries. This has become a normal part of modern education and has opened completely new opportunities for cooperation.

Social Media and Digital Tools in Professional Use

For this assignment, I chose five tools that I can use in my work:

  • ChatGPT
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • WhatsApp

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence tool that I see as a very useful support tool in my work. It can help generate ideas, structure information and support writing tasks. For example, it can be used to create teaching materials, draft texts or summarize larger topics.

One of the biggest advantages is that it saves time and helps to get started with different tasks. Especially in planning and writing, it can be very helpful to get a first version quickly. At the same time, it is important to remember that the answers are not always perfect. The content must always be evaluated critically and adapted to the situation. In my opinion, ChatGPT works best as a support tool, not as a replacement for professional expertise.

Facebook

Facebook is a familiar platform and I also use it in my work. One important role of Facebook is marketing and communication. We use it to promote our educational programs, share information about courses and highlight different activities. It is a good channel to reach a wide audience.

Facebook can also support communication through groups, where information can be shared with specific target groups. In education, it can be useful for keeping people informed and engaged.

However, there are also challenges. Not everyone uses Facebook anymore, and mixing personal and professional use can sometimes feel unclear. It is also important to consider privacy issues and think carefully about what kind of content is shared.

Even though Facebook is not a new platform, it still has a clear role in reaching certain audiences, especially in marketing education.

Instagram

Instagram is another important tool, especially from a marketing and visibility perspective. It is a very visual platform, which makes it suitable for presenting activities, projects and everyday life in education.

In my work, Instagram can be used to promote our trainings and make them more visible. Pictures and short videos can show what we actually do, which makes the content more concrete and interesting. This is important when attracting new students or partners.

Instagram allows us to present education in a more approachable and human way. It can also create a sense of community and interest around our activities.

The challenge with Instagram is that it requires continuous content creation. It also easily shows only the “best moments,” which may give a slightly unrealistic picture. Still, it is a very effective tool for visibility and communication.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is clearly a professional platform and very useful in working life. It can be used for networking, sharing expertise and following developments in one’s own field.

In my work, LinkedIn supports professional visibility and cooperation. It is a good place to share projects, ideas and experiences, and to connect with other professionals and organizations.

At the same time, I have noticed that LinkedIn has changed in recent years. It often feels more like a platform for self-promotion or job seeking than a place for sharing knowledge and professional discussion. Instead of exchanging ideas and expertise, many posts focus on personal achievements or building a certain kind of professional image.

In my opinion, LinkedIn would be even more valuable if the focus was more on sharing knowledge, experiences and real insights from working life. That would support learning and collaboration much better. Despite this, LinkedIn still offers many opportunities, but it requires a critical approach and conscious use.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is probably one of the most practical tools for everyday communication. It is fast, simple and widely used. In my work, it can be useful for quick communication within teams or smaller groups.

It is especially useful in situations where information needs to be shared quickly. For example, short updates or quick questions can be handled efficiently without formal meetings.

However, it also has its challenges. It easily blurs the boundary between work and free time, and messages may come at any time. Because of this, it is important to set some limits and not be available constantly.

Positive and Negative Aspects of Social Media

Social media brings many benefits to working life. It improves communication, enables networking and increases visibility. It also supports learning and sharing information.

At the same time, there are also challenges. Privacy and data protection are important issues. Social media may also create information overload and pressure to be constantly available. In addition, the line between work and personal life can become unclear.

In my opinion, the key is balance. Social media should support work, not control it.

Elements of Successful Use of Digital Applications

Successful use of digital tools requires more than just technical skills.

First, there must be a clear purpose. A tool should be used because it supports the work, not just because it exists.

Second, usability is important. The tool should be easy to use and accessible for everyone.

Third, users need sufficient skills. Without digital competence, even the best tools do not bring value.

Fourth, data protection must always be considered, especially in education where sensitive information is handled.

Finally, it is important to maintain a balance between digital and human interaction. Technology should support people, not replace human contact.

Self Evaluation

This assignment made me reflect on how strongly digital tools are already part of my work. Many things that I consider normal today would not have been possible without digitalization.

I also started to think more about how I use social media in my work. Especially the role of Facebook and Instagram in marketing education became clearer. They are not just social platforms, but also important tools for communication and visibility.

At the same time, I recognize the need to use digital tools in a controlled way. It is easy to take too many tools into use without thinking about their real purpose.

The international example with Teams also reminded me how naturally we work across borders today. At the same time, it showed that digital tools are not used in the same way everywhere, which is important to understand in cooperation.

In the future, I would like to develop my skills especially in using artificial intelligence and digital tools more effectively in my work. I am also interested in how digital tools can support cooperation and improve learning outcomes.

Overall, this assignment helped me see my own work from a new perspective. Digital tools are not just tools – they are an essential part of how we work, communicate and develop our services today.

Finally, I would like to thank the teachers for an interesting course – it has made me think more about digital working environments.
