Kela
I am Finnish student who is doing a semester abroad at the moment, so I get Student allowance and Housing allowance for my stay there that amount to about 490€ a month.
After that I went on to check my Omakanta, I accessed to service via my bank codes which I use for all my online identifications. I checked my pension year, and it was 2071, so I would have to be about 68 years old before I could retire which is depressing. If I were to retire today, I would receive 84€/month. So, I have a fair few years left in my career before I can call it a quit.
Digital shops
In terms of convenience, online platforms are available 24/7, offering the ease of shopping from anywhere, with quick delivery options. However, waiting for deliveries or dealing with potential import delays can be a downside. Local stores provide immediate access to products, allowing for hands-on shopping, but are limited by store hours and location. Supermarkets like Prisma also offer online ordering with delivery, but their range and flexibility might not match the convenience of online shopping giants.
Information provided on online platforms is typically comprehensive, with detailed product descriptions, images, and customer reviews. However, the accuracy of these can sometimes be questionable, and third-party sellers on sites like eBay may vary in reliability. Local stores, while offering less detailed online information, provide direct interaction with sales staff, ensuring more trustworthy guidance for in-person shoppers.
Personally, I don’t use amazon, eBay etc. that much because I prefer going to the physical store in case I need anything. But I have used booking.com and other online booking services and have found them reliable so far.
Price wise I don’t know if there is THAT much of a difference, If you are looking for a specific item it is always recommended to try different options to try and get the best price for what you are looking for.
Application
For my application that I would like to recommend is the very popular and widely used AutoCAD.
From personal experience, I have found AutoCAD to be an incredible tool in industrial design. For instance, in designing a new production facility layout, I used AutoCAD to create precise blueprints that allowed me to optimize space, ensure safety standards, and plan for machinery placement. The ability to quickly iterate and make changes to the design in real-time helped improve efficiency and collaboration with other engineers.
However, AutoCAD does have a learning curve, especially when transitioning from basic 2D drawings to complex 3D modeling. It can also be resource-intensive, requiring powerful hardware for smooth operation, especially when dealing with large, intricate designs.
Overall, AutoCAD is highly effective for creating detailed, scalable designs in industrial engineering, providing both the precision and flexibility needed for various applications.
Digitalization
Digitalization is transforming nearly every aspect of our lives, but for those who are not connected or lack the skills to navigate virtual services, it can create a range of challenges. In the context of industrial management and engineering, the digital divide is becoming a significant issue, with real-world consequences for individuals and businesses.
One major concern is access to essential services. In industrial settings, for example, companies are increasingly using digital tools for everything from remote equipment monitoring to inventory management and supply chain tracking. Without access to these tools, workers or managers may struggle to stay efficient and competitive. Similarly, many companies are shifting to online platforms for employee training, making it harder for those without digital access or skills to keep up with new technologies.
Socially, the digital divide can lead to isolation in the workplace. As more collaboration tools move online—whether it’s project management platforms like Trello, communication tools like Slack, or even virtual meetings—employees without access to these platforms may find themselves disconnected from their teams. This can result in missed opportunities for collaboration and problem-solving, which are key in industrial engineering projects. But for sure your employer will give access to these services to everyone that needs them but if you feel you can’t use them and understand digital tools you can start to feel isolated.
In conclusion, the digital divide presents several challenges in industrial management and engineering. Those who are not using or do not have access to digital services risk falling behind in their careers, facing higher costs, and being left out of important technological advancements. To address this, it’s essential to focus on improving digital literacy and expanding access to technology, ensuring that everyone in the field has the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
Digital Competence Test

I took the Digital Competence Test and scored between 60-70% in most areas, which shows that I have a good grasp of essential digital skills, but there is still room for improvement. This score reflects my comfort with everyday digital tools, like using software, communicating online, and browsing the internet—skills that are important in both personal and professional settings, especially in a field like industrial management.
However, the results also pointed out some areas where I can improve. While I’m familiar with the basics, more advanced skills—such as data analysis or using specialized software in my field—could be further developed. These skills are increasingly important in today’s work environment, where digital tools are becoming integral to everything from project management to decision-making.
This insight presents a valuable opportunity for me to learn. I plan to focus on strengthening my digital competencies in areas that will enhance my effectiveness in the workplace, such as learning new software, improving my data management skills, or gaining a deeper understanding of digital systems. By improving these areas, I will be better equipped to keep up with the growing demands of my profession and stay competitive.
In summary, while I’m confident in my current digital abilities, this test has highlighted areas where I can continue to grow. Improving these skills will not only benefit my career but also help me stay adaptable in a fast-evolving digital landscape.
Self-reflection
It was interesting to find out where my digital skills are, and my knowledge is. Also going through my pension and the number of years I have left to work was both fun and depressing. I for sure learned some useful things writhing this blog post that I will try and build upon beyond this post
