KELA
Kela – Finland’s social insurance institution is responsible to provide different kind of benefits to residents. It offers financial support for various situations like health, family, unemployment and retirement. I am a mother of three children. I get child benefit for each of my child until they are 17 years old. I also get partial care allowance because one of my children is on her second grade and I only work parttime under 21 hours per week. Partial care allowance is paid for parent is the parent is working part-time while caring a child under three years or if the child is in the first years of school. Now we don’t get any other benefits in my family. OmaKanta is nationwide online service where the resident can see their personal health information. I use OmaKanta when I want to see for example the results of my laboratory tests. OmaKanta requires secure identification when logging in to the service.
Evaluation of Booking.com
I chose to evaluate about Booking.com that is widely used platform for booking hotels worldwide. I often use it when I travel in Finland and when I go to London UK for my early holiday. I find the best prizes from there. Booking.com offers cheaper prize than booking from another place. Booking.com also rewards members. It has a large variety of different kind of places to stay for example hotels, hostels, holiday houses and even private homes. This is good for those who are on budget and also for those who are searching for luxury.
The service is very easy to use, and it has a mobile application that makes it even more easy to use. There are filters than can be set so that it’s possible to search for example only for hotels that costs less than 100 euros or a hotel that has got good grades from customers who have been there. There is a possibility to leave user review and that is often very helpful and important when thinking about booking a hotel stay. Booking.com is reliable because it has secure payment methods. It also has good customer service.
After making a reservation Booking.com sends an email for confirmation details and an email where there is possible to for example to book a taxi in the destination or to book some places to visit. This really adds some extra vale to the service as it can be very helpful. Personally, I don’t have anything negative to say about Booking.com.
Apotti – Patient information system
Apotti is a patient information system that is in use at my work in homecare. I use Apotti at the office and a mobile phone application called Rower when Im visiting a patient. I chose to write about Apotti because I`m using it every day at work and I have something to say about it! Apotti integrates patient health data, care plans and social services into one platform. It helps documentation and it reduces redundant documentation. It works together with the mobile application Rower, so it shows real time data that is valuable and very important in home care.
I have been using Apotti about 2 years now and that why I`m familiar with it, but I must say that it took a long time for me to really get comfortable for using it. I must say that Apotti is not that user friendly at least in the beginning. I have very complex ways to get some little things done. It needs many clicks and same thing are possible to make in few different ways that adds complexity of it. There have been many complaints about Apotti and I´m not surprised about it. I can think a few improvements that would really be helpful for Apotti users in home care. Apotti and Evondos – medication dispenser could get integrated, that would make the nurses work much smoother. AI could provide predictive analytics to identify patients at risk. Also, machine learning could be used so that it could learn from data trends to suggest tailored care plans.
Risks for people who don’t use virtual services
Most of the important services like healthcare is transferring more and more into the internet. If a person doesn’t use internet the person might have difficulties for example booking appointments, checking their health information or renewing a prescription.
In worst case the person who doesn’t use computer or a smartphone might not get the needed care, support or information soon enough and it can risk their welfare. In many cases the people who use internet can get services or products much cheaper, so it also affects negatively for those who don’t use virtual services as they need to pay more.
Self-reflection
What did I learn?
I learned to think about all the possibilities there that AI and machine learning could help to improve digital health and make nurses work much easier in the future. If for example if in documentation the nurses would have the help of AI, the nurses wouldn’t need to spend so much time for it. It was very interesting to do the digital competence test. I found out that there is so much that I already know but there is a lot where I can get better and there are skills I am eager to learn!
