Outi´s Digitized working environment

DIGI SOCIETY

My own experience of digitalization

In my time, my life has always revolved around the TV and the phone. When I was a child, I wondered about an era when these inventions did not yet exist. In the 90s, a friend of mine had a computer and we were all amazed. Trying to get online was not so easy back then. Nowadays, with the flick of a finger I can read the news, visit my bank website or even update my social media. On the one hand it’s great, but on the other hand it can be scary. Increasingly, we hear of cases where a website has been hijacked or someone’s domain name has been misused. How can you trust the world created by digitalisation?

On the other hand, high-speed internet and a working phone have made life much easier. Advances in technology have made cleaning with a robot vacuum cleaner or mowing the lawn with a robotic lawnmower at the touch of a button. A wide range of health monitoring devices have been developed that can even tell you how well you sleep. Once you get used to this kind of life, it can be difficult to live without it.

Digitalization in healthcare now and in the future

I work in the neonatal intensive care unit at Kuopio University Hospital. We moved to a new hospital in 2014, when digitalisation was so prevalent that some nurses were unable to adapt to the new care culture. Phones were introduced that received alerts from patient monitors and made it possible to monitor the patient’s heart rate or oxygen saturation in real time. Much has changed and the development continues. In my work, I have studied preterm care and studied various studies that deal with the development of preterm care over the years.
In the future, technological development in the health sector will accelerate further. Services are increasingly being relied on remote connections, and AI-assisted encounters are becoming more common. VR glasses are becoming integrated into simulation exercises, and efforts are being made to make teaching situations more authentic. Induction into neonatal intensive care is a long process. I hope that VR headsets will soon be introduced so that orientation would speed up and training would better correspond to practical work.

Digitalisation is one of the key megatrends

In 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect for personal data processing. The revised Data Protection Act aims to enhance personal data protection and the rights of individuals. It addresses data protection queries related to digitalization and globalization, and harmonizes data protection laws across all EU countries. Data protection reforms must evolve and stay current.

On a positive note, the increasing requests for personal data and password checks for various activities have become noticeable. The coronavirus pandemic spurred significant advancements in digital areas, highlighting that while information security is effective, it still requires development. The possibility of online scams remains a concern, and the thought of falling victim to one is particularly unsettling. Despite this, I believe that fostering a safe society can provide reassurance in the face of digitalization’s challenges.

Artificial intelligence Chat GP

I’ve never used Chat-GPT before. I’ve heard about artificial intelligence and its applications. After trying it out, I was left confused. It’s impressive how AI can provide intelligent answers in the correct language. I believe AI knows how to respond accurately. I inquired with Chat-GPT about how digitalization aids in neonatal intensive care. The responses were professionally crafted and succinctly summarized. In summary, digitalization can enhance neonatal care through improved monitoring, data management, remote surveillance, AI-driven predictions, and expert consultations.

I’m still confused.

Self assessment

In this task, I gained substantial knowledge about the potential of digitalization. I observed that the data protection reform is quite robust and has been meticulously considered. Chat GPT was a new concept to me, and it greatly enhanced my understanding of the advancements digitalization has made and its potential future impacts, which I am still exploring. It’s a truly fascinating subject that provokes deep thought.
