My current job and use of different digital tools

I work as a professional special education teacher. I use WhatsApp, Wilma and email to communicate with students. Of these, WhatsApp is used daily, but no sensitive matters are communicated through it. They are sent via Wilma. In teaching, I use o365 tools, but I don’t think they can be read as social media. I also use Moodle in teaching, which is a software that can be used to create online courses. I often get tips for my work while browsing Facebook. In the past, I also used Instagram and got tips from there as well. I’ve stopped using Instagram because it was taking up too much of my time.

New digital tools that I could use

Asana

Asana is a collaboration tool that helps teams manage all kinds of tasks. It helps teams track tasks, work progress and projects. It differs from project management platforms because it does not have resource management tools, budgeting or expense tracking.

I have used this in my private life when I have studied and worked as an entrepreneur in addition to my main job. This is a great tool for planning projects and creating schedules. I could use this in my current job to make a year clock. It would make it easy to plan the whole year at once.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a networking tool and online community service. LinkedIn is therefore a professional’s business card and CV, a professional networking place, a job search social media channel, an information search channel and a search engine. LinkedIn is not exactly a job search site, but it can be used to expand one’s own network, it can be used in job searches, it can be used to get job offers and find professionals. On LinkedIn, you can see the user’s city of residence, industry and workplace, as well as position and title. Information is often also found on education, gender and age, and, for example, whether the person is considering a job change or has recently changed it.

I have an account in LinkedIn, but I use it very little. As I mentioned earlier, I have reduced my use of social media as it has been taking up too much of my time. I could only use LinkedIn for professional purposes. There I could network, share experiences and material with other teachers and look for a new job if necessary. I believe that LinkedIn will be an important channel for job hunting in the future.

Mobiilivarmenne

A mobile certificate is an identifier located on the phone’s SIM card, which allows you to log in to online services and manage things electronically. You can use the certificate on your own operator’s website or in a store. With the mobile certificate, you can log in in no time: you enter the phone number into the online service and the password you choose yourself into the phone. After logging in, you can use the service safely.

I use this for personal use daily. This could also be useful for work use, if at work you need to identify yourself to a service electronically or sign a contract electronically. On the other hand, I would not like to use my own personal identification service for work use.

Snapchat

Snapchat is a free instant messaging service especially used for quick and easy sharing of images and short videos. Pictures and videos, or snaps (Snap), can be edited in real time with various fun effects and filters, such as animations added on top of face pictures, as well as texts and drawings. Snapchat can be used in many ways: you can follow friends or other people there, share different content with them, or you can also use it only for text chatting if you wish. Friends are searched based on username, phone contact information or by searching for nearby acquaintances based on users’ location information. Many have a nickname as their username, others use their first and last name in the service – the younger the child, the more recommended it is to use a nickname.

My students use snapchat a lot. I could look into it because I know what they are talking about. And maybe through that you could give instructions for tasks, for example, an internship period.

YouTube

YouTube is a platform for uploading and sharing videos. Users create videos that they share and get a lot of views. It is the platform that is mostly chosen when searching, sharing or uploading videos because it is free to create a channel. It started to launch in 2005 and it was in 2006 that Google bought it and started its structural and viewing improvements. It used to work with Adobe Flash, and now it works through HTML code.

I have used YouTube quite a bit in my side job as a physical education instructor. I could also use it for my main job. I could use it to make how-to videos for the profession I teach.

Self Evaluation

This was an interesting assignment. It reminded me of all the possibilities of digital tools. It also reminded me of the importance of demarcation. Not all digital tools need to be used. You should only use those that have added value in your own work. Digital tools should not be used for their own sake, but for the benefit they bring for your job or your free time.
