Effective knowledge management requires leaders to have facilitation skills to ensure the overall control of work and consistent progress towards goals. Leaders do not merely oversee knowledge processes; they actively participate in the creation and dissemination of information. During the course, the theme of knowledge management was explored through literature and frameworks, and the SECI model, in particular, stood out as a new and useful model. I realized that successful knowledge management requires a clear strategy, tools, and a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing. I understood that to ensure success, knowledge management should be integrated into daily activities and become a part of the organizational culture.

I am interested in information retrieval and consider information collection to be my strengths. I have an analytical personality, which contributes to knowledge management and the development of the organisation towards a knowledge-based approach. However, the requirements of my job and organization demand more agile information retrieval, analysis, and especially the refinement of information into new forms. I am familiar with the basics of the knowledge management tools used by the organization, but deep expertise and effective utilization require practical experience with the latest information retrieval methods and technologies, such as AI-based information retrieval systems. Because these kind of tool and data management methods are new to me, I have to attend courses to learn them.

I see a need to strengthen the knowledge-sharing culture within my organization. I often notice at work that common problems and frustrations are related to poor information flow or lack of information. I should promote a more effective knowledge management culture in our organization through encouraging and sharing knowledge by example, as we work with rapidly changing phenomena in collaboration with various networks. I would also like to find more time sharing knowledge with networks, because I believe there is a lot of valuable tacit knowledge there.

The course provided lots of information on leadership through various themes and sources, which enhanced my understanding of leadership and its diversity. Reflecting on the course themes, my personal development needs include improving technical skills in knowledge management tools, balancing my leadership style, strengthening resilience to changing work environments, and promoting a knowledge-sharing culture within the organizational culture. I specifically plan to study more about the themes “Roles of Manager in Different Working Communities” and “Knowledge Management Practices.”

The course has significantly enriched my understanding of the various aspects of knowledge management and leadership. Through my reflection, it is clear that to meet my personal development needs, I require additional training and practical experience in several areas of knowledge management. Firstly, additional training and workshops on knowledge management tools and processes will provide a solid foundation for knowledge management. Secondly, I should utilize the existing knowledge within the organization. Thus, mentoring and peer support from experienced colleagues would be a valuable addition to my learning. While collaboration within the organization and team is effective, utilizing virtual environments for collaboration skills development would also respond to more agile knowledge management across networks. With these changes, I can improve my personal skills and support the organization’s knowledge management practices more effectively.
