Use of Digital Tools in My Work
I use the Lifecare patient information system in my work every day. All patient records are done in the patient record system, so I think it is the most important digital tool I use in my work. The medical record system is used to record the patient’s medical histories, treatment plans, lab results and medication.
I also use the Medanets mobile application a lot in my work. Medanets is a mobile app that integrates with patient information system. It is possible to view for example vital signs directly from the mobile device. The data such as vital signs and observation can be entered directly into the patient information system with the patient, so the errors and time spent can be reduced. The app makes it possible to scan the patient’s identity from the patient’s wristband, thus avoiding for example giving medicine to the wrong patient.
My organisation uses The Uoma Patient Logistics System to coordinate patients to the right place of treatment. I work in a hospital ward where patients are transferred daily from another hospital for further treatment. In Uoma, it is possible to report on a patient, making it easier to ensure that a suitable patient is being transferred to a suitable place for further treatment. The Uoma Patient Logistics System allows you to ask for more information about the patient with chat. The system enhances patient flow, reduces wait times and improves coordination.
I also use Measurement Tower in my work. It is feature of the Medanets mobile application. The Measurement Tower intergrates patient vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and oxygen saturation with the Medanets mobile app. This saves time and reduces error records.
Shifts are planned with Titania’s shift planning system in my organization. The Titania’s shift planning system ensures that the right number of staff in shifts. Employees can input their availability or shift preferences into the Titania. With Titania, shift planning is faster and employees can almost do it themselves.
We use Whatsapp for daily communication in our work. In our hospital ward, we have created a Whatsapp group among our staff. It is used, for example, to request employees for missing shifts. Whatsapp is used if you need to have a quick contact with the employees of the department.
In our department, we also use Teams to communicate between employees. Teams is used to store recordings of department meetings, for example. With Teams, we communicate about things that don’t need to reach the employee immediately, such as nursing practices.
On YouTube, we sometimes watch videos related to the treatment. For example, plerapunctures are rarely performed in our ward. Youtube videos are a good way to learn how to perform the treatment. This makes it easier for the nurse to assist the doctor.
New tools I Choose to Support my Work
The first social media tool I choose to use in my daily work is Facebook. Our department is planning to introduce Facebook in the near future. The Facebook site is to be created in collaboration with a few other departments and would be used for inter-departmental communication. Facebook would be used to inform about the activities and practices of the departments. Updates could be made on the site, for example, on training sessions, development days and ongoing projects. Facebook could be used to inform others about good practice, for example. It could also make cooperation between departments more interesting and concrete. Not all employees necessarily use Facebook, so they may be excluded from the information provided. Whenever you publish, you should make sure that you have permission from the people involved in the publication. You should not post anything on Facebook that could compromise patient privacy.
For my second social media tool, I choose Instagram. Instagram could be used with Facebook. This would allow us to reach a larger number of employees. The same posts could be made on both. Instagram has more possibilities to edit visual posts, the post could be easily copied to Facebook. Instagram should also take into account the privacy of the employees featured in the posts, as well as patient privacy.
The Vimeo video editing and publishing platform seems like a tool that would be interesting to use in my work. Our department is in the process of introducing a device pass. At least for the most demanding devices, it would be good to make tutorial videos and these could be edited using the Vimeo application. Vimeo could also be used to make orientation videos for employees. With Vimeo, the recordings could be limited to a specific target group, in this case the employees of the organisation. The Vimeo app would be paid for, but would not have ads like on YouTube, for example. With Vimeo, it is possible to securely embed the video on a specific site such as an employee’s network.
I think everyone should learn how to use ChatGPT or another AI application. Healthcare staff could use ChatGPT to search for information. ChatGpt can be used to find information about medicines and diseases, for example. When using ChatGPT one must remember that it is not a substitute for professional decision making or clinical expertise. The health professional must be able to be critical of the information that can be found on ChatGPT.
While doing the assignment, I created my own profile on LinkedIn. I could use LinkedIn for networking and to apply for a possible new job. LinkedIn would allow me to create a professional profile where I could showcase my skills to a large extent. A well-designed and constructed profile would allow me to stand out and attract the attention of employers. By networking, I can build up valuable contacts that I can use for my career development. It is possible to post updates or articles on Linkedin, which can add my professional credibility and expertise. LinkedIn also allows you to follow interesting news and trends, which helps you to develop your skills. To make the best use of LinkedIn, you need to take the time to create a good profile and make yourself visible.
Self Evaluation
This assignment was interesting. Most of the applications in the assignment were new to me. It was inspiring to think about how all these tools could be used in my work. It was also interesting to read others’ experiences with these tools.
