I work as an ICT development manager in healthcare. We develop new digital solutions for our customers and develop existing digital work tools to better serve both professionals and our customers. Social media is not my work tool, but I use it a lot in my free time.I actively use Facebook and Instagram, but these applications are clearly defined by my employer for private use and cannot be used, for example, from work computers or mobile devices provided by the organization.
Digital tools I use in my work
Teams is, of course, The One. During the covid pandemic, my work went completely remote, and Teams became the most important tool for holding meetings. It’s been a few years since that time, but remote work is here to stay. Development work, data storage and discussion with colleagues takes place in Teams, and on-site meetings have decreased.
For project management, I use an application called Thinking Portfolio. Project management includes the monitoring of resources, budget, schedule and many other aspects, and this is easy to implement in Thinking Portfolio.
In workshops and situations where we need new ideas, we often use Miro. Miro is an easy-to-use and visual tool that enables a larger group to work together.
Social Media tools I could use in my job
LinkedIn is an application that we are encouraged to use in our work culture. Networking with professionals is always useful, and spreading the good practices of your own organization benefits everyone.
At my work, WhatsApp is only used for messaging with colleagues. In the application, we discuss matters outside of work, and communication about customers takes place in other channels.
Slack is a completely foreign application to me. I would assume that in some sense the rigid Teams chat could be partially replaced with Slack. It would be interesting to learn more about Slack, but this would require a purchase from my organization.Another app that seems interesting is Mural, which I think could be used specifically for workshop and team-type work. Development, which has moved to a remote task, requires different tools, and these could be used better and more efficiently in our organization.
Instructions in the form of videos could also be suitable for training digital services for both professionals and customers. Instructional videos like this could be made on Vimeo, for example, which seems like an interesting application.
Self-evaluation
There are many applications that would benefit me in my work. My organization’s procurement and data protection policies sets its own restrictions on the use of applications, but I think that new applications could be tried even more boldly.
