I’m working as a laboratory nurse in ISLAB North-Savo welfare district. In my work i use daily computer and different kind of applications. Mainly i use Microsoft office applications; Word, Excel, Forms for data processing, Outlook, Teams and OneDrive for communication and shearing documents.
In addition i use these programs in my work
- Appointment system, customers books their blood test time. This system is for appointment management.
- Laboratory system, this is a management system of healthcare laboratory processes from pre-analytics to post-analytics.
- Infinity lab software; This program is for workflow, task management and laboratory test data monitoring.
- Titania, this program is for communal work shift planning.
- Employees’ intranet for informing and searching for instructions.
- TurvaArvi is a program where we identified workplace hazards and assesses their risks.
- Therefore; document management system, it’s a tool to search for and retrieve information. Also we use it to make internal auditing documents.
- PSS; this is human resources program. It’s where we announced holidays and absences.
- ESS is for monitoring and management of skills and training.
For all of these programs i have extensive skills and knowledge. And safety point of view; programs have different password for each. So, there is a lot to be remembered. Sometimes i wish for password banks.
Social media tools
Teacher wanted me to choose five tools of social media and describe, how I could utilize them at my daily work. In my workplace there is regulations of data protection, so social media tools aren’t in use. Social media apps are blocked from computers and mobile phones. But in my free time I use Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, WhatsApp and Spotify on my phone.
Social media is increasingly being used for communicating, learning, and collaborating. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is usually for communication, but these are also good advertising platforms. If organisation want’s to get visibility to a larger crowd, it should be in this kind of social media. Also LinkedIn is like these, but i think it has more professional touch in it. Personally I use Facebook to be in contact with my family and friends and LinkedIn for searching for jobs, showing my skills and read news from companies that I’m following.
Youtube is online video creation and sharing site. I use it more for learning than communication or collaboration. I can learn new piano songs through it, see DIY -videos and so on. It could be used as a advertising purposes too.
Whatsapp is an app built for communication and collaboration. It is an international instant messaging (text and voice) and video calling application. You can also send documents and pictures through it. It can be used as a collaboration tool because you can make group calls too. I have used the application with my colleagues when we try to plan a suitable time to play padel or have get together evening.
Spotify is a digital music service. Spotify is like most social media platforms, it requires its users to have a personal account. This allows the user to add a profile picture and follow friends, family and artists. This service i use daily, i can relax or exercise listening to music and be a better worker!
Positive and negative sides of social media
In the next table there are some negative and positive sides what i think. Some of them are overlapping, because cyberbullying and hacking is cybercrime. But rest of sides can be possible.
Successful use of digital application
My main rule for this one is; Don’t use it too much, your life is around you and not in the screen.
Self-evaluation
I obey my own rule and i dot use social media much. Yes I send messages and make video calls everyday and read Facebook posts but i keep my time in social media as minimum as i can. I can not even imagine that i would have more social media applications than those. I see the value of social media in marketing and advertising. After this assignment i recognize the benefits and obstacles of social media and I am able to choose digital tools which supports my own working field.
