DIGI CITIZEN
Me and KELA
KELA is very familiar to me, as I am sure to all Finns. I have received a study grant from KELA during my studies. When I had my child, I also received maternity allowance and nowadays child allowance. Both of these are very important benefits. I don’t travel a lot abroad myself, so I was not familiar with the European healthcare card before. I made the necessary application for it now electronically. I will have the card at home within two weeks. Applying was really easy and effortless.
OmaKanta for my own use
OmaKanta is also a very easy-to-use application. I got in with bank credentials. Instead of a key reader list, I use a mobile key. It had been three weeks since the last check-in. I will probably visit OmaKanna about once a month on average. I go there to look at valid prescriptions, my own research results or children’s health information.
The Pension
The Keva website is not familiar to me. I logged in there and received a notification that my pension affairs are not handled there. I could already expect this, because my earnings pension statements have always come through ELO. So I logged on to Elo’s website. I logged in here as well as in OmaKanta. I found my current pension estimate there. I don’t want to tell the exact amount, I’d rather tell it in relation to my current salary. According to this, my minimum retirement age is 67 years and 11 months. My pension will then be 59% of my current salary. If I retire later, for example at the age of 70, my pension will then be 68% of my current salary. I don’t think these predictions are true. I believe and hope that these will change due to the current world situation. Even though the predicted average life expectancy has increased, it’s crazy if we’re still working at age 70.
Reliability of online stores
I personally use many online stores, but I had not familiarized myself with all of them. I knew e.g. from ebay, but I’ve never looked into it further. The selection looked very wide, the prices were pretty much the same as elsewhere. Maybe even cheaper in some products. Although the selection is wide, there are many options to narrow the search. I often use google to assess reliability and ebay seemed to be very reliable.
Booking and Trivago are familiar to me. I like them when they offer a wide range of options in one search. I don’t need to visit all Accommodation websites. Both often have good discounts compared to doing business on the spot. In many cases, paying in advance gives you a cheaper price than paying on the spot. This is completely understandable, because then the buyer does the booking himself.
Amazon was also more foreign to me. Seems very similar to Ebay in many ways. This also seemed to be reliable. The selection was also very wide here. Although such a store with a really wide selection exists, I still prefer a smaller and preferably domestic operator.
ProAgria online services
I chose ProAgria’s online services as the viewing target. I chose this service because I use it at work every day. In the online services, the dairy entrepreneur and advisors can view data on the cows’ milk yield and fertility. The data can be viewed on the farms included in the milk production monitoring for the entire period that they have been collected. Milk production data can be used to search for development targets and monitor the development of milk production. The knowledge of online services also helps the entrepreneur in breeding cows. Information on silage analyzes will also be visible in the online service. So I could summarize that the service is an information bank for entrepreneurs and a tool for development.
Digitalization and digital gap
In my opinion, digital externality threatens young people and the elderly the most. Among young people, it is important to be part of the crowd, which means, for example, digitalization. The age at which children get a phone can be used as an example here. Each family has its own factors that affect the child’s need for a phone, for example different jobs. The child may feel that he is left out of the crowd, or at least he experiences a digital outsider for a moment.
Another group that threatens to be excluded from digitalization is the elderly. Many services are digitized and it is more difficult to get help face to face in the traditional way. This is why it is important that services are not fully digitized until you can be sure that everyone knows how to use them or at least can get help with it.
I hope that among the working people, almost everyone would already be in the scope of digital technology. If this is not the case for someone, it will certainly be more difficult to get a job. Digital competence is already required in almost every workplace, at least in some way. That’s why emphasizing digital skills in different education programs is part of today’s and very important.
The Digital Competence
The digital skills test was very interesting. I could already guess in advance my own area of strength and that was communication. Communication is my strength and I have the most experience in it. I like to message and chat on different digital servers. This is part of my work in cattle feeding consulting. It is important to know how to share your knowledge and market yourself.
Security and information were the next strongest or weakest area. Both of these involve an awful lot of different regulations and instructions, which are difficult for me to read. Even more time should be spent to master this topic, because it cannot be denied that the topic is important.
I got the lowest points in the production part of the area. I’m bad at solving digital problems and exploring new ways to utilize technology. I may be testing new ways to utilize it, but I’m not good at researching them. Overall, the test was very rewarding. It gave a little confirmation to my own presumption. In the future, I could keep the results in mind and use them to develop my own skills.
Selfevaluation
These assignments gave me new perspectives and the courage to use digital applications more widely. I also learned a few new things about the important services of Kela and OmaKanta. I can be braver than before to use English-language sites to my advantage, for example when making various purchases. I can find out their security in exactly the same way as Finnish websites. It is not necessarily possible to get all the necessary purchases from Finnish online stores, so it can be a saving grace to use the offerings of online stores abroad. While writing this blog, you will notice how reading and writing English gets easier all the time. It is good that there is a lot to do and repeat, so that learning happens.

Hi, and thx for interesting blog entry. It was quite interesting to read about whole new area, agriculture, as it`s not that familiar to me. As a finn, and living in North-Savo, almost everybody knows someone who`s in that business, but not that many know`s for example digitalization in it.
ProAgria Online services seems to be “the” service in your area of business, and it sounds like it`s very versatile tool.
I`m in same page with you and your tought`s about digital gap. Biggest problems are surely with elderly people and young people. Altough problems are very different.

It was interesting to read your blog, thank you.
Your digital competence was the opposite of mine and actually can see it from your blog and the way you write. Keep up with it and you will be digitally competent in every level.

It was interesting to read your blog on this topic. Many had the same thoughts as me, especially regarding digitization and the digital gap. ELO was a new thing for me.

Great job on reflecting on how these assignments have impacted your use of digital applications! Your comments demonstrate a willingness to explore new perspectives and tools, and a desire to learn more about important services such as Kela and OmaKanta. Your observation that you can now be braver in using English-language sites is particularly noteworthy, as it highlights your growing comfort with using digital tools in a variety of settings. Your willingness to explore online stores abroad for necessary purchases also demonstrates a practical use of technology to save time and money. Finally, your reflection on the process of writing in English shows a commitment to learning and growing, and a recognition that practice is key to improving one’s language skills. Overall, your comments demonstrate a thoughtful approach to learning and a willingness to embrace new tools and perspectives. Keep up the great work!

Hi Sanna,
it was great to read about your experiences and views. ProAgria’s online services were new to me so it was interesting to me to read and learn about them and they sounded very handy for entrepreneurs in your field. I share the opinion with you about the younger and the elder people what comes to the digital gap. As you say the digital externality even threatens some people one way or another. Even though the development of the digitalization is mainly a good thing it sometimes worries me that doe it happen even too fast – is there enough time to think what are the possible problems coming among it and how to avoid and prevent them. Let’s see in the future what will happen among this topic.

You wrote about older people who can not use digital services. I have also thought about this. I think the older generation needs the support of society that they keep up with digitalization. I agree that the spread of digitalization can affect the inequality of children and young people. However, I think it is good that digital skills are already taught at school, because it is a prerequisite for success in the future.

Hello Sanna! It was nice to read your article. I found the digital competence test also interesting! From that I noticed that I have knowledge of certain things, but those things that do not concern me, such as programming, I have no skill. That’s okay, because I don’t need that skill. Instead, even more attention should be paid to security in the digital world. You have very nice pictures in your blog!
