DIGI SOCIETY
I work as a physiotherapist in the organization field. I work on musculoskeletal health.
During the corona years, we took a rather big digital step. I’m sure that many others did too. When we weren’t allowed to meet people, we organized for example lectures and some functional moments by remote connection. We also offered individual guidance with a remote connection for musculoskeletal disorders. After the worst corona years, these services survived in addition to face-to-face activities. There are enough customers for both local and remote events.
Digitalization has taken a big step in recent years. Some of changes will remain part of our everyday life. Remote meetings are certainly already familiar to everyone of working age. For some of us, it makes everyday life and work easier. The downside is that face-to-face activities may be decrease.
Digital world is here to stay. As digitalization increases, attention should be paid to data protection. It is worth thinking about what information can be obtained and shared on the internet. You cannot share sensitive information on the internet. There is always the possibility of a data security breach. There are many possibilities for people to misuse all the data and information to hurt others. There is a need not only to protect customer data, but also to protect the misuse of the data. One aspect of the problem is also that does people understand how their information is used. Digitalization enables a lot, but you have to be careful.
The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation of 2016 harmonized data protection practices at national level. In addition, strenghthened the role and rights of citizens when processing personal data. This regulation has provided security but very good question is that do we always understand what we consent to when we accept all the internet cookies?
The GDPR, the European Union’s data privacy law that entered into force in Europe on 2016 and applied in 2018 was a breakthrough as it remains the strongest privacy law in the world. That law gives Europeans citizens different rights including the right to know who is processing our data and to what aim. The law gives also the right to get access to our data and the right to correct or delete our data. It is very important that the law also applies to non-EU companies that offer goods and services in the EU.
Development is continuous and more and more digital is taking a role in our everyday life. The role of people is decreasing when for example cars and vehicles will evolve and you don’t have to do all the simple things as drive by yourself. People still need to maintain skills.
It is nice to think about the possibilities of digitalization and this assignment made me think about it more deeply. In my situation, most of the work is done online these days. It doesn’t come to much thought. Digitalization has changed the world. In addition, digital skills are needed more and more.
