Digital tools I use

I work as a ICT Specialist and digital tools I use are mostly related to Microsoft. Microsoft Teams is of course the most used tool, for having conversations, meetings (internal and external), being part of our worldwide network, etc. Part of my job is also to find new ways to utilize features that Teams offers to make our staffs daily tasks more efficient. Also to make daily tasks more efficient, I use Microsoft Power Platform ( Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio) to automate processes. For emails and calendar, might not surprise that I use Outlook and it’s calendar

I use ChatGPT daily for work, school and free time activities. I also implemented Microsoft Copilot in use on our whole organization few months ago, but I have to admit that I personally have not used it so much as I thought I would. It has mostly been my assistant on meetings and created some polite emails for me when I have needed to contact my colleagues in different countries (because as a Finn, phrases like “I hope this message finds you well” don’t come naturally).

Other tools include Favro for project management, and my least favorite, Netvisor where I get flooded with invoices.

I also have to give honorable mention to Reddit. If I am facing a problem of some kind, I can be 100% sure that someone else has faced the same problem and there is a thread discussing on that exact problem on Reddit.

Testing out new tools

Todoist

I have previously looked for task management tools and I remember seeing the name Todoist before, but haven’t checked it. After looking through their site, it looks just like one of many similar tools. What I find positive on Todoist is that it offers multiple integrations and could be widely used, although most of the integrations are with lesser known/used apps. It is also on the cheaper end of similar tools with its Team subscription. On the negative side, at least for me to use it, would either need to create lot of integrations or move most of my stuff there, but if I were to start from fresh with new project / business, it could be potential to be up to date with tasks.

Mural

I have heard of Mural before, but have not checked it, until now. Quick look at the site and it looks like basic whiteboard application, but when reading more about Mural, it seems to have quite many features for project management, and that’s a positive thing. It also has multiple integrations with well known and used tools like Confluence, M365, Google, Adobe, etc. On a negative side, price for features seems to be little high.

If I had to choose between Todoist and Mural, I would go with Todoist as it the same features that I would use for lesser of a price.

Wrike

Never heard before. I was thinking that Wrike is just another Mural, but I was wrong. Wrike seems to have almost every single possible chart type there is and so much more. It is designed to fit in larger, multilevel enterprises as well as smaller businesses. The amount of elements Wrike has is definitely a positive thing. You also get a lot of those elements for 10 dollars per month per user, so for smaller teams that sounds great deal. I will be taking advantage of Wrike’s free trial for one of my projects. On the other hand, it might be to complex for one person or smaller team to use and take quite a bit of time to get used to it.

Doodle

This sounds great! This scheduling tool is what I needed, or I have been asked. This helps booking board meetings where the attendees are from multiple different organizations. There is too many ads on the free version, and 7 € per month feels too much just to remove the ads. Of course, with that paid license, you get more features, but for my use, I would only like to remove the ads.

What I also see as a positive thing on Doodle, is that you can create bookings and by using Stripe, you can also charge for these meetings at the time of booking.

Pi

This one was also new to me. I had a long chat with Pi, brainstorming new business ideas and also made a “career test” based on my personality. Pi is fun little AI chat with multiple themes ready to be chosen from, but I don’t see the value in it compared to other AI chats, except Pi is friendly (which you can also prompt ChatGPT to be).

Social Media for work

I can see the benefits of being active on social media on platforms like LinkedIn, as networking can have a huge impact on your career, but I still refuse to use it other than scrolling through it sometimes and liking one or two posts from my employer. LinkedIn can also be useful for following current trends on your field. Also it’s your CV and helps recruiters find you even though you might not be looking for a new job.

I don’t see other social media platforms as beneficial as LinkedIn for work. Social media also has its downsides as there are always people who disagree with you and have different views than you. And I’m not talking about someone posting something extreme. It feels that there is always some negativity in the comments, which is also a good thing to get feedback from different views, but there is also a lot of unnecessary cyberbullying.

Good digital application?

Good digital application has good UX/UI and secures users data well. It is not filled with unnecessary features and it is easy to implement in use and has integrations for other applications.

Self-evaluation

In this assignment, I got to explore new applications and there was also at least one which I will be taking to use.

I also noticed that most of the applications have some sort of AI implemented in them and think that will be the future.
