KELA: When I was studying at the University of Applied Sciences, Kela paid me a study grant.  We have two children in our family, so kela pays child benefit once a month. The amount of child benefit is affected by the number of children in the family under the age of 17 who are entitled to child benefit. For example, 94.88 euros is paid for one child and 104.84 euros is paid for another child. The child benefit is tax-free income. Kela pays child benefit for the child until the end of the month in which the child turns 17 years. You can get more information from https://www.kela.fi/lapsilisa.

OMAKANTA: You can log into Omakanta through strong identification, for example with online banking codes, or with a mobile certificate. I use Omakanta to renew prescriptions. I can also view my children’s health information from my account.

KEVA: I can’t check my employment pension statement on Keva’s website. On the website, for example, you can find a calculator that can be used to calculate the amount and accumulation of the pension. The calculation formula is annual income x 1.5% / 12 months, which gives the amount of the pension per month.

DIGITAL SHOP

I am very skeptical about using foreign online stores. I want to avoid unnecessary consumption, so I very rarely buy things and I prefer to buy products from home country. I think that the most reliable and safest is to book, for example, a hotel in Finland from the hotel’s own online booking. I looked at the privacy statements of Booking.com and Sokos hotel. In my opinion, the same things were mentioned in both of them, for example about the collection of data and their disclosure to third parties. The practices in these also seem to be the same. One thing that caught my attention on the Booking.com website was a mention that if the price of a hotel room has been mistakenly set at 1 euro, the customer will still have to pay the price for the room, which it is when it is corrected. I think this sounds weird, if a customer thinks that the price of a hotel room is one euro and in the end they have to pay for it, for example, 300 euros, it sounds like a suspicious activity.

OMAOLO

Omaolo is a CE-marked medical device manufactured by DigiFinland Oy. With the Omaolo service, a person can make a symptom assessment. By answering the questions, the person receives either self-care instructions or referral to health care. The Omaolo service can help healthcare avoid unnecessary visits and thus to save resources for treating patients who need urgent help. Omaolo service is easy and clear to use.

DIGITAL GAP

In my opinion, people who do not use digital services may receive unequal treatment in society. For example, many things are handled faster through digital services and applications. I’ve heard that especially older people can be left behind by digitalization and technological development. They are not used to using mobile devices like younger people and learning new things can be more difficult for them. Digitalization can also promote safety, such as various alarm systems and medicine dispensing robots. So if a person does not use virtual services at all, the security may be lower than for a person who uses virtual services.

DIGITAL COMPETENSE TEST

This test was so interesting. I got lowest scores on ”Automation”. And I think this is reality. I don`t know much about automation, but I really want to learn more about it. I have a good understanding on digital safety and digital information. I understand reality risk and the ability to format, organise and store digital material while keeping both safety and accessibility in mind.

I use digital services every day, but there is still something to learn about it. I believe that we can never know everything about digitalization and technology. Because the development is so fast, that each of us surely has something new to learn all the time about digitalization. With the help of the assignment, I better understood what all information is related to digitization. When you use devices every day, you don’t think about things so broadly. But this assignments gave me reason to think about things further.

Hi Sanna,

I noticed that we have the same thoughts about online shopping. I also wrote in my own text that I don’t like using foreign websites in particular. I prefer to buy domestic products from my locality. Your question of how we secure that all people get the equal services even as digitalization develops is very topical. I hope that it will be taken into account in the development of services. You have brought up good and current points in your text. Thank you for your text.

Hi Anni,

I agree with you that foreign online stores are not as reliable as Finnish ones. So I also prefer to use Finnish websites. I also think it’s good if people think about environmental friendliness when buying products. Thanks for the interesting blog post!

Hi Maarja,

You brought up the same thing as me: people who don’t use digital services is more difficult to take care of things such as the bank and health matters. However, I also want to believe that there are fewer and fewer people, who do not want to use digital services. I believe that many older people have also noticed, how fast and easy doing business can be with the help of digital services.
