Digi Society
Digital experience
I was born in the 90s, so I remember landline phones and tube televisions. Computers were big and heavy. At home, we mainly used the computer for gaming. At school we used the computer only in IT lessons. I got my own phone when I was 10 years old. With the phone I could send a message, make a call, or play a worm game. I bought my first smartphone myself when I was 20 years old. Since then, the development of digitalisation has been tremendous. Thanks to technology and digitalisation, things can be managed from home. We can buy our food with home delivery using the mobile app, we order clothes online and pick them up at the post office, we can make an appointment for a doctor or dentist using the app. Remote work has come to stay in our world.
My job is to assess the need for treatment using the chat and phone system. I spend my working days entirely with IT equipment. During my working day, I use a lot of different information technology systems, for example patient information systems, a chat application, a phone system and e-mail. Shifts are made with the help of an application and our work is monitored with the help of technology.
I believe that in the future technology will increase in our everyday life. Thanks to digitalisation, we can develop even better services in the future, from which people will benefit. It seems that only the sky is the limit for what can be done in the future with the help of devices or via devices. For example, at the moment in my work I write chat with customers myself. I think that in the future most of the work that people currently do could be handled with the help of robotics. As digitalisations increases, information security and its threats must also be considered. What if the systems don’t work as they should? Have back-up systems been thought about in the development of the services, if the malfunctions of the systems cannot be repaired?
Risks of open digital society
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is to protect personal data and give more means to individuals to control data processing. Digitalisation also brings with it dangers. Data protection and data security are emphasized when people’s data is collected from many different places. I have been read in the news how data breaches have been carried out, for example, in the patient information systems of the psychotherapy center Vastaamo. Personal data in the wrong hands can cause significant destruction. I work with patient data and personal data. Our workplace has very precise data protection and information security rules that every employee must follow.
Self evaluation
I learned that the development of digitalisation has been fast in the last few years. The importance of information security and data protection is being emphasized all the time. While reading other people’s blogs I realized, that others have similar views and thoughts on the subject. I want to believe that each of us wants digitalisation and technology to bring more benefits to people than drawback. I learned that artificial intelligence can answer when the question is clear and short. The answers may not always be correct.

Thank you for your interesting text.
I agree with you that the time spent on the screens is not good for people. VR – glasses sound very interesting and certainly bring a different perspective to studying. It’s true that many fear losing their jobs as AI takes over the world, but as you said, AI and humans can work together as a human-AI collaboration. I haven’t written a text in English for a long time. So the language of this comment is also not according to the textbook, I`m sorry about that.

Hi Jenna,
thanks for sharing your thoughts.
From my point of view, it is undeniable that digitalization, technology, and remote capabilities simplify modern life by improving communication, expanding information access, and providing flexibility. These advancements streamline tasks, automate processes, and break down geographical barriers through remote work and communication tools. The result is an interconnected and accessible lifestyle that enhances efficiency, dynamism, and adaptability, making daily responsibilities more manageable and convenient.
I totally agree with the author’s perspective that the increasing integration of future technology into our daily lives is driven by continuous advancements in areas like artificial intelligence, robotics, and connectivity. This evolution enhances efficiency, convenience, and accessibility in various aspects of society. From smart homes to healthcare innovations, these technologies are creating a more interconnected and streamlined world. As applications and services continue to develop, our reliance on technology is expected to become inseparable from our daily routines, fundamentally transforming how we work, communicate, and interact with our surroundings.
Digitalization poses risks due to the extensive handling of personal data, increasing the likelihood of privacy breaches and unauthorized access. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) plays a vital role in mitigating these dangers by providing a comprehensive framework for organizations. GDPR ensures lawful and transparent processing of personal information, granting individuals greater control over their data. Through principles like data minimization and informed consent, GDPR fosters responsible and ethical data management, promoting trust between individuals and organizations in the digital age.
Furthermore, I also agree on the author’s self evaluation regarding digitalization and technology bring more benefit than backwards. Fundamentally reshaping how people learn, work, and communicate. The easy access to information enhances education and fuels innovation, while seamless global connectivity transforms communication. Workplace automation and digitization improve efficiency, productivity, and create new job opportunities, contributing to economic growth. In healthcare, digital tools advance diagnosis and treatment. Despite concerns about privacy and job displacement, the overall impact of technology is overwhelmingly positive, elevating the quality of life and propelling societies forward.
I enjoyed very much your article, good work Jenna!
