KELA
I personally use Kela’s services:
- Meal subsidy when I eat in student restaurants, The meal subsidy is €2.55 per meal. I show an electronic Kela student card.
- Healthcare fee for students in higher education, I pay a healthcare fee to Kela and i have the right to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS).
- I can be reimbursed for medicines, clinical nutrients and emollient creams prescribed for the treatment of an illness.
My family use Kela’s services:
- Kela pays child benefit for each child who is permanently resident in Finland. The payment continues until the end of the month when the child is 17 years old. My child is now 5 years old.
- When child gets ill, I can either take him to the municipal (local) health centre or to a private doctor. Kela reimburses part of a private doctor’s and a private dentist’s fees and part of the costs of examinations and treatments prescribed by the doctor. Kela does not reimburse treatments given at municipal health centres. Kela also pays part of the cost of medicines prescribed by a doctor.
KANTA
Logging in to Kanta is done through strong identification, for example, with online banking codes or a mobile certificate. Logging in is quick and easy.
In the heel I can see my own or my children:
- View recipes and request prescription renewals.
- View health and treatment-related information, such as laboratory results and diagnoses.
- Make the will to donate organs and the will to treat.
I often use Kanta in personal transactions and in my work I direct clients to use Kanta, for example, I ask to see a follow-up plan or whether the recipe has been renewed.
KEVA/ELO
When i logg in Keva there is: The counter is not currently in use maybe because I work for private sector.
I looked at the retirement age on Elo’s website: Estimated lowest pensionable age 67yr 8month. Estimated highest pensionable age 70 year. If I work two years more, my pension will grow almost 20%.
BOOKING.COM
Booking.com was founded in 1996 and has grown from a small Dutch start-up to one of the world’s leading digital travel companies, with the aim of making it easier for everyone to experience experiences around the world. Booking.com seamlessly connects millions of travellers with memorable experiences, a range of transport options and incredible places to stay – from homes to hotels and much more. As one of the world’s largest travel marketplaces for both established brands and entrepreneurs of all sizes, Booking.com enables properties all over the world to reach a global audience and grow their businesses.
When you make a Booking on the platform, you enter into an agreement with the Service Provider (unless otherwise stated). This increases the reliability of the service when the information comes from the actual service provider. I used the same search criteria to compare hotel accommodation with Katinkulta through Booking and on the Holiday club website, the price and terms were exactly the same.
The information on the platform is based on what the service providers tell Booking. Booking does its best to keep things up to date, but realistically it can take a few hours to update, for example, text descriptions and lists of services offered by Accommodations. So this is where the price on the property’s website may be faster updated than on Booking.com.
Booking does not specify star ratings. Depending on local regulations, they are determined by (a) the service providers themselves or (b) independent third parties (e.g., organisations that review hotels). In any case, the star ratings show how Accommodations fare in terms of value, facilities, services, and more.
Booking gives quality ratings. To help its guests find the ideal Place to Stay, Booking provides quality ratings for specific Accommodations on our Platform.
Guest ratings, photos and additional information are always important information when booking a trip, which is why I usually always check out Booking for reviews of the hotel. You may not find critical feedback on the hotel’s own website, and you can get a more reliable description of the hotel from Booking, even if it is information provided by other users. On the hotels’ own pages, pictures and descriptions can give a much better picture when it comes to what reality corresponds to. Because of this, I appreciate user comments, as I have sometimes been scammed for trusting hotel pages.

OMAMEHILÄINEN
OmaMehiläinen is Mehiläinen’s free and secure online service which makes taking care of your and your family’s health issues easier. Through OmaMehiläinen you can use the Digital Clinic, an online reception, where you can find help to all of your health concerns 24/7.
I started using the OmaMehiläinen service two years ago when occupational health care was transferred to Mehiläinen. I have downloaded the application to my mobile phone and I actively use the digital clinic through the application. Using the services is quick, easy and hassle-free through the service. You can easily contact a digital doctor by chatting and, for example, you can send messages to your own occupational health nurse. Your own health information (visit texts, certificates, laboratory referrals and responses are all clearly displayed in so-called chronological order)
Experiences with the service are very positive, there is nothing bad to say. Hopefully, other healthcare providers would also be able to use the same quality application. Especially for the FSHS, i.e. my own organisation, I would like to see the application introduced as soon as possible for the use of students.
DIGITAL GAP
The digital divide can lead to exclusion and inequality. Services should also be available physically, as not all people use the services digitally, such as the visually impaired, due to disability, incompetence or other limitations. Services that are only digitally available put these special groups on an equal footing.
DIGITAL COMPETENCE TEST
SELF-EVALUATION
The sites I reviewed in this section were already familiar to me. The digital skills test was new and I am now learning where to take the test, I will certainly recommend this to others interested in the topic in the future.
It is important to look at different services critically, because often, for example, the same product can be found on another site at a much lower price.
I usually order all the things I need from online stores in Finland or abroad, I prefer primarily domestic products. I think I recognize very safe online stores. I usually order food for a week in the grocery store’s pick-up box or delivered directly to my home, or I use the Food Box service, where the ingredients and recipes are delivered to the door.
I commented on these three articles:
Hi Elina, It seems that your digital skills are at a great level. You will definitely need good digital skills to work at FSHS. I have also used the OMAMEHILÄINEN app and I agree with you. The application is functional and easy to use. I would like to see similar applications from other players in the industry. Especially from the wellbeing services counties.
I agree that services must be available in other ways than just digitally in the future. For example, it is difficult for the elderly to manage all digital platforms and, for example, banking services can be overwhelmingly difficult to handle digitally.
Hi Elina!
You like Mehiläinen’s online service and I also think that it’s the easy and comfortable to use. I have used this service about one year and I think that it’s the best online service in the healthcare which I have used. This kind services we’ll need more in the future.
