KELA

The National Pension Institute, Kela, administers social security for people living in Finland in various life situations. Kela takes care of basic insurance for people living in Finland in different life situations.

My family currently only uses for families with children Kela’s services child benefits. Before we have received maternity and paternity allowance, parental allowance, child care support and disability support. I have also received unemployment benefit when I was unemployed for a few months.

With the help of a free European healthcare card, you can get medically necessary healthcare if you travel or stay temporarily in another EU or EEA country, Switzerland, Great Britain or Northern Ireland.

Such treatment may be needed if you suddenly become ill or have an accident. You can also get treatment if it is pregnancy-related treatment, childbirth or a long-term illness. The treatment is given according to the practice of the country of residence. I am now getting such a European healthcare card.

OMAKANTA

You can see your own health information and prescriptions from your personal database, you can request a prescription renewal and save your will to donate organs and treatment. An EU corona certificate is also available in Omakanta. I can access omakanta by logging into www.kanta.fi/omakanta-page using bank identification.

I have used my own account when I wanted to see my laboratory results or records made about me in the hospital or when checking health information related to my children.

KEVA – PENSION

Keva’s most important tasks are securing the uninterrupted livelihood of personal customers and the financing of pensions.

My minimum pension age is 67 years and 7 months, if I were to retire on April 1, 2056. If I work past retirement age, I get paid more the longer I work.

DIGITAL STORES

For digital stores, I have used booking.com. I haven’t used eBay, Amazon or trivago because of my poor English skills.

Any private person or company who registers as an eBay user can trade or auction goods, services or products on the Internet. Anyone else registered as an eBay user can buy an item or place a bid if the item has been auctioned. eBay’s software raises the price automatically up to the maximum limit set by the user. The purchase is paid to the PayPal system, which ensures that the product for sale corresponds to the announcement.

An important part of eBay trading is the trust between buyer and seller. You can assess the seller’s reliability by reading other people’s reviews of the seller. “Feedback” is available to every user who has made purchases.

I wouldn’t necessarily trust other people’s reviews when buying a product online. I prefer to choose a Finnish website or at least a site that is safe and secure to use. Cheapness doesn’t always come first.

SERVICE FROM MY OWN FIELD – TERVEYSPORTTI.FI

In my work, I often use the terveyportti.fi website. There is a lot of useful information for nurses about, for example, various diseases. The search term makes it easy to search for information about different diseases and their treatment. The information is reliable.

The website also has a drug database, which is often needed in the work of a home nurse. I often use it to check the intended use of a medicine or to look for a parallel preparation for a medicine. The Duodecim drug database is our country’s most comprehensive drug database for healthcare professionals.

The pages are easy to use and contain researched and reliable information. That’s why I use the site.

DIGITALIZATION AND DIGITAL GAP

The development of digitization is a risk for those people who find developing information technology and its use difficult. For example, for our customers in home care. Few of them know how to use digital services, for example paying bills online. It is a pity that they no longer have the opportunity to manage their affairs according to their own skills.

Are people who don’t use social media (for example facebook, instagram, twitter or whatsapp) left out? Do they feel like they don’t belong? I hope not. However, we can always ask how the other person is doing or at least call if they don’t use social media. I hope we don’t forget the importance of asking questions.

DIGITAL COMPETENCE TEST

SELF EVALUATION

Through this task, my thoughts were structured about my own digital skills. My skills are surprisingly good, but I could be more precise in matters related to data protection, for example when shopping on the internet.

Digitization is not always a good thing, especially when it comes to people in the weakest position, such as the elderly or the disabled. It is important to hold on to their rights and enable equal services for them as well.

    Hi Silja,

first I would like to say that your English is not poor – your text was good and I was great to read about your experiences! I share the opinion on Terveysportti site with you. It is a very handy site to get reliable and up to date information related to healthcare. I have many times used it in private life as well. And it is so true what you say about the people in home care – all of them cannot use the digital services and this should be always taken into consideration and not make all the services available only in the internet. And all of people don’t use social media – I think that at least among younger people they are considered to be somehow strange even though I think it is not so. I wish all the best for you in the digital future!

I agree with certain online stores and products that cheapness is not only the most important thing, but also responsibility and reliability.

Booking is reliable in the sense that it publishes the provider’s information. If a hotel room can be obtained through the Booking website under the same conditions as on the service provider’s own website, then I will use Booking. In my own publication on Booking, I also wrote about the fact that user reviews and feedback usually give a better idea of the actual quality of the hotel than the service provider’s own websites, because users often give feedback without embellishment.

    Hello Silja!
Terveysportti was very good choice in this topic. It doesn´t matter what field are you working in health care, but you find almost all necessary information from Terveysportti. You can also trust that information in Terveysportti without thinking is that information true and has it been sufficiently researched. I agree that cheapness doesn´t always come first, but if you order lot of things from online stores from abroad, you´ll find reliable stores and also save money 🙂

    Hi Silja
You have nicely reflected on the perspective of society in your blog. It is true that many are timid in the digital world. Maybe I fall into this category a bit myself. Of course, I handle the basics digitally. The world of the elderly, the needy, or those who are otherwise out of the digital world has been made difficult. That is also a thought-provoking question: do they remain outside this society involuntarily?? All the best in your digital world!

    Hello Silja,
Thank you for your interesting text.
I didn’t know that on eBay anyone can trade with each other. Personally, I wouldn’t dare to trade there. Cheapness doesn’t always come first for me.
I have only used the Terveysportti website to complete a few Duodecim courses. But there seems to be a lot of interesting information there.
I myself sometimes wonder if doing things online is already too much. Taking care of many things without bank credentials sometimes seems impossible. However, there should always be an option to take care of things personally, with a person.

Hi Silja! Thank you for your interesting text. I agree with you about that cheapest product is not always the best. I also like to buy Finnish things and go shopping in a store and not on the online shops. I often read reviews made by others. However when reading them, we all should remember that we can’t completely trust everything we read on the internet. They give direction if I am thinking about buying some product.

    Hi!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about nurses’ practical usage of the terveyportti.fi website in the medical field. It highlights the website’s trustworthy information on numerous ailments and its medicine database, both of which are useful in a home nurse’s day-to-day work. The site’s simplicity of use and the accuracy of the information seem to be some interesting benefits.
Your ideas on the digital divide and digitization pose significant issues about the potential exclusion of people who have difficulty using technology. It draws attention to the difficulties experienced by clients of home care who might not be accustomed to using internet services like bill payment, so limiting their capacity to handle their affairs in accordance with their own skills. I like the way you have emphasized the value of interpersonal communication and keeping tabs on others while expressing the desire that people who do not utilize social media do not feel excluded or isolated.
You have shared some practical insights on the real-world advantages of digital platforms in the healthcare industry while also bringing to light the possible drawbacks of the digital divide. This underlines the value of preserving personal connection and communication, making sure that people who may not use digital services are not excluded or left behind.

    Hi.

You have good English skills! Trust yourself.

Terveysportti is a new service for me but it feels suitable in your occupation.

I also liked that how reflected your opinions of people who might not use social media. Are they left alone?, like you asked.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your blog. It is very interesting, especially the part where you mentioned the use of TERVEYSPORTTI by nurses. I work in the healthcare field and would very much introduce this site at my workplace. We work with the elderly and children with disabilities. I believe the services render by TERVEYSPORTTI will be very useful particularly the drug database. Thanks again for sharing.
