My experience with digitalization

I was born in 1993. At the time our family had a TV and a landline. I could watch videos in VHS and listen to songs with cassette player. If I needed to contact a friend, I could call their landline and anyone in the house could pick up. If there was no one home, I couldn’t reach my friend and I had to go and see if someone was at the yard or knock the door.

I started first grade and no one had a cellphone. I was in third grade when I got my first Nokia cell phone for Christmas. It was a happy moment and I remember it so well! The first computer in our family was a laptop, that everyone in our family used.

I also remember joining Facebook, IRC-galleria and MSN Messenger when I was in middle school. Cellphone and later different social media platforms were a game changer for me, I think.

Later the cellphones started to have a camera, laptops became personal and we did some assignments at school digitally.

Now I work mainly from home. I have many different digital devices and I really could not image my life without digital world. I work as a Software Specialist and my main project is the OmaMehiläinen app, so my daily work is mainly digital software based.

I basically love technology and digital world.

Digitalization – Threat or Opportunity

I consider digitalization mainly as an opportunity to make our lives easier. Of course it is also a threat, but in my point of view it should not be treated as a threat. With technology and digitalization we can create so many wonderful things and improve the old ones.

One should of course be careful about sharing private stuff to the digital world and be aware that there are threats about using digital services also. I think that the main threat in digital services is the user that might not understand the digital world.

Self evaluation

I started in Savonia at the beginning of 2022 and I have learned so much. Studying has really been a pleasure.

This course seemed suitable and creating a blog was fun. The materials for this assignment were interesting.
