I have been working in ambulance as a paramedic since 2013. In the beginning of my career the only digitalized system was Saku-program where we typed all the data of the missions after we got back to the station when the mission had ended. It has developed a little bit since today we have Codea-system where we get all the missions from the public safety answering point. When the system works the program shows us the navigation instructions to the target’s location address. On our missisions we write everything by hand on SV210 form and if the patient gets transferred to the hospital the secretary scans the paper and it gets saved to Mediatri, hospitals database where you can seen the patients health data if he has formerly been admitted to the hospital. When we get back to the station we type the patients information on Codea computer program. It the patient stays home all the data that gets in any system has been found on paper and in the Codea program.
In the beginning ot the year 2022 we were supposed to have new KEJO software (kenttäjohtojärjestelmä) KEJO is a joint information system of the police, rescue services, social and health services, the Border Guard, the Finnish Defense Forces and Customs, which will replace the field systems and emergency patient registration systems currently in use. KEJO`s has been developed for past 10 years.
Now in the end of the year 2023 the Kejo is in use. It is very useful when it works as you can access important patient info. But it has unfortunately many technical problems and often down which seems rather frustrating taking into account all the technological developments that have been invented by 2023.
Hi!
It was very interesting to read about your working as a paramedic in ambulance. Those digital systems what you use in your job were new to me so it was nice to learn how important role digitalization plays and what kind of different systems you use. Without those digital systems information transform would be much more slow and difficult.
Thank you for your blog.
It is very interesting to hear what kind of changes the digitalization brings to your industry.
Sounds crazy that developing KEJO has took 10 years. I havent had a clue, that system development is about a lot of effort.
I am also a little suprised that you still write by hand 🙂
