Digital Tools in my work

I work as a executive manager and home economics specialist in Northern Ostrobothnia district of Martha Organisation. I use lot of different digital tools everyday at work and it is difficult to even remember all of them.

Digital tools that I use in my job are:

Teams:

We use Teams for every day communication and to share and fill documents and to have meetings with colleagues and partners around Finland. Some of our nationwide seminars are also held through Teams.

Other Microsoft Office tools:

We use Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Martat.fi and intranet:

Our homepage at martat.fi is the most important channel to let people know what kind of courses and other events we are offering. People can also sign up for cooking course etc from our website. Intranet is also important tool for every day use because there we can find latest guidelines and other important information.

Procountor:

We use Procountor for all financial management.

Martta statistics:

Martta statistics is a place where we compile statistics about all courses and lessons we give. And from there we can easily see and get those statistics of what we have done.

Facebook and Instagram:

We use Facebook and Instagram to let people know what is happening or what is coming and to do some marketing. Facebook and Instagram are also used as a way or channel to give people guidance for example about gardening in the spring and summer time or mushrooms in the autumn.

Canva is a tool to make Instagram and Facebook releases to look good and interesting.

ContentCal is a tool where you can do all your social media releases ready before and set them that releasing date and time you want. It helps us to save time and to plan better our use of social media.

Martat mobile application:

This mobile application is good to use as a part of teaching and to bring “Marttailu” closer to people.

New Digital Tools to try

Evernote could be one new tool for my daily work. Now I use paper notes and write things in to my calendar and it is easy to loose those notes or forget if I do not see them at the right time. Evernote could help me to keep those notes in order and is safe place so I would easier to remember to do everything.

LinkedIn is also one tool what I should use at work. I have personal LinkedIn profile but it would be good to make profile for our association also.

Miro looks familiar to me and I think we have used that in some meetings. I think it could be a tool for us. I could use that while planning new ideas with our members around our area.

Vimeo could be a good tool for us when we need to make a video to use as a part of teaching material or some other guidance.

TikTok would be good tool to reach younger people. We are trying to get students and other young people to join Martha Organisation and TikTok could be a good way. I know that some of other districts are already using it but I have not used it even in my personal life.

Use of Social Media at work

Social Media is something that has come to our working life and is there to stay. Companies, associations and organisations need to use social media to keep in touch with their clients and members. I think nowadays it is a must. People use social media to find out about companies or products or services they need. People also want to know more facts and maybe some personal information about entrepreneurs or employees behind the company.

Positive things about social media:

+ easy way to contact people and to get to know people

+ good and fast way to share and find information

+ feels more personal

+ usually up-to-date

+ you can get feedback right away

+ good option to follow and to get to know what your clients/members think or like or want

Negative things about social media:

– people´s bad behavior

– wrong or misunderstood information

– active and effective use of social media takes too much time from work day

– security problems

– made mistakes spreads fast

Successful use of Digital Application

Digital tools and applications helps you to be more effective at work and makes working easier if you know how to use those tools you need. So I think the most important thing is to learn and to teach employees how these tools and applications work. Also there need to be good reasons why to use new digital application and you need to explain those reasons to people who are going to use it. Successful use of digital tools is based on need and know-how. And of course you need to have enough time to learn how to use them and after that enough time to use them.

Self-reflection

This assignment was fun to do. I got to know and tried so many new tools and I think that without this I would have never found those because I didn´t think I need to. All the time while doing this I was thinking just my working life and not my personal life. I thought that at work we are already using too many different digital tools but after doing this assignment and reading what other students have written I realized that there are so many new things to try and to learn. And that some new digital tools could make my job easier.
