Assignments:

KELA (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland)

Nowadays I use Kela´s services only to receive child benefit and to pay that compulsory health care fee because I am studying. Before many years ago I have used those services more. When I was studying the first time I got study grants and general housing supplement and also government guarantee for a student loan. Later for some short time I got unemployment allowance. And when I was on maternity leave I got maternity allowance and that maternity package and later parental allowance. So I am quite familiar with Kela´s services from my own experience but also at my work I sometimes need to know these things to help my customers. I ordered my first European health care card now. I don´t know why I haven´t done that before.

Omakanta

I use omakanta quite often because I check information about my children if they have visited doctor or nurse and I have not been there with them. My husband never remember what they have talked about there 🙂 I access to omakanta with my bank identification service.

Keva –> Elo

I can not find my pension information from Keva so I logged in to Elo´s services to find out that my earliest retirement age is 67 years and 3 months and I would get 1788€ per month and if I would retire at my estimated retirement age what is 69 years and 10 months I would get 2139€ per month. I was surprised that my estimated retirement age is only tho months before that last retirement age.

Online shopping

I think that most of those digital shops are reliable and if there is an option to use Klarna for payment you do not need to pay anything before you get that product you ordered. I often use digital shops to look for options and to compare prices. For example booking.com is a good website to find out what kind of accommodations are available in that place where I am going to travel. But usually I book straight from the hotel´s etc own website. And also digital shop like Amazon is very good to look for options but I never order from there. I do not like to go shopping so it is easier to look for options first and then just go in to the shop to get it. I do buy clothes from digital shops but most of the time I buy them straight from the manufacturer´s own online shop. Food and other daily consumer goods I order from Prisma using S-kaupat mobile application. I just think that it is the easiest way and saves money.

Website or application from my own field

I chose Martta mobile application because it is very easy to use and I use it weekly at work and at home. It is an application where you can find information and tips for your everyday life like housekeeping, food, nutrition, plants, garden, handcraft and sustainable life. For example if you get some stain in your shirt you can easily search for advice how to remove it without getting too many options. For me the best thing in that application is that it gives you a suggestion what to eat today and you can even get a different menu for every week with recipes and nutritional information. At work I use this application as a part of teaching material especially with younger people but also I try to teach older people to use it.

Digitalisation and digital gap

Digitalisation has changed our work at Martha Organisation a lot and I do see a big digital gap between younger and older employees. Especially last few years have been very difficult for them who are not use to use all those digital tools or digital services. Our working field is changing really quickly and it is very difficult to learn to use all those new programmes and at the same time take care of other tasks. And if our workers do not know how to use all those new digital tools how can we expect that our members can. Most of our members are older women who has never before used for example TEAMS and now if they want to participate in some lecture we are offering they need to use it and some of them do not want to learn to do it so they do not participate. Luckily there are also younger members in Martha clubs who are helping older ones so it gives them a change to participate. This digital gap is a problem we need to solve in our organisation so that we can service all our members and clients equally.

I commented these articles in Daniel´s, Maris´s and Tiina´s sites.

Digital competence test

Here is my results from that test. No big surprises.

What did I learn?

Doing these assignments was a good way to reflect my own habits and made me understand how much I do use all these digital services. And this made me think how easy our life is nowadays because we can do almost everything from home just using our mobile phones or computers. I think I actually learnt more from reading other students blogs because I found out so many new things about other countries and also got to know digital services and applications that I´ve never heard about before.
