DIGI CITIZEN

KELA

Kela was familiar to me when I was younger and got study grant. I remember, that it was quite difficult to apply for support and it had to be very careful , if you work at the same time and got study grant. Nowadays I pay for student healthcare fee and my children get child benefit. I have European health care card and it’s with me if I go on holidays abroad.

OMAKANTA

OmaKanta is quite known website to me and I check my health information there when I need. There is easy to go, if you have online banking ID or mobile certificate. I use online banking ID. It’s clear site and easy to look for example your diagnosis or laboratory answers.

KEVA

If I retirement age is 68 years old, my pension is less than 3000 €. If it’s 69 years old, it goes about 200 € higher. I think, that my retirement age will go over 70 years. It feels like every year it gets higher and higher. System didn’t want to tell me how much I get if age was 63 years, because Lowes retirement age for me is 67 years old.

ONLINE SHOPPING

I’m not very active e-shopper, but sometimes I shop clothes or shoes from Zalando. There is sometimes good sales and returning or changing different sizes is very easy. Personally I hate to go shopping and match clothes in different stores. I get hot, my hair goes electrified and nothing fits me anyway, Rather I shop online and try clothes on in my home. For example I ordered to my daughter same dress in two colors and two different sizes and returned three of them. Also order is easy to deliver and I can pay it with Klarna check. I almost never pay my online shopping directly, because if I have to return them, is payment much easier later. I’m quite discerning shopper and I always compare prices between different shops. I think Zalando has very competitive prices. Service is reliable and custom service is easy, so I think it’s very safe to shop site like that. Also points to application, it’s easy to use :).

Online shopping is very popular way to shop and there is so much different choices for everybody. It’s so easy, that you can stay home and order almost everything to you home. Even food and some medicine are in online, so if you only want to stay home and go nowhere, even work from home, it’s possible and you can isolate oneself in peace. Quite scary, isn’t it?

APPLICATION FROM SOCIAL- AND HEALTH CARE

I chose Mehiläinen- application from my own field, because my occupational health care is in Mehiläinen. Mehiläinen is private provider of social- and health cervices. It operates also few countries in Europe. I haven’t use application so much, only when I make an appointment to vaccination for example. Logging in is easy. I remember that for the first time I opened app I had to identify, but now facial recognition is all I have to do to get in to app. In the front page you can choose if you need occupational health care, digi clinic or make an appointment. You can also check there your prescriptions and documents for example. But if you have been a patient in public healthcare, you can’t see for example your prescriptions in Mehiläinen app.

Good thing about app is, it’s very easy to be in contact with your occupational health nurse using app. Answer comes quite fast, in 1-2 days. If you need sick leave, you can use digi clinic. My opinion is it has made too easy to get sick leave without even talk to anyone and unfortunately some people use that opportunity too easy.

There also sees if some examination belongs to occupational health care or not. Also if you are regular customer and pay everything yourself, you can see price estimate in app, so there is not big surprises coming if you see a doctor. I searched how easy there was to change language to the app. I found it, but I had too look it for a while.

RISKS AND CHALLENGES IN DIGITALIZATION

There is a lot of people who don’t have skills to use digital services and that is what worries me the most in social and healthcare. I’m talking about elder people or disabled for example. They are in risk of being left without health services because they maybe haven’t knowledge to use computer. Almost everywhere you call, is phone machine answering to you and tells you to dial different numbers. That’s sometimes difficult to me, who you a lot of digital tools daily.

Government is planning to digitize domiciliary care services and that scares me. I understand that it is cheaper, but you can’t take care of elder people via computer. They people need a human to visit, not human behind the screen.

I remember my grandmother when she was about 80 years old and got her first and last mobile phone, Doro. She got angry because she didn’t even wanted it. She never understood how to use it. My close person has problems with her memory now, and I see how passwords and understanding of different digital devices is getting harder.

MY DIGITAL COMPETENCE TEST RESULTS

My top 3 highest score was in identity management, law and self-service. For example I understand what might happen if I share personal information on the web. I also feel sure about what is legal or illegal write or share about others. About self service I know how to make address changes and make a dentist appointment for example. I learned that my digital skills are quite basic.

SELF-REFLECTION

I work in social and healthcare, so my thoughts about digitalization is easily in that area. Of course there is a lot more risks and challenges. One challenge is banks and their services. Almost everything is digitalized and you can’t have bank service from human that easily than used to be. My mind comes again older people, who wants to withdraw money from bank and pay their grocery with cash. Also I don’t know how is possible nowadays to pay your bills if you don’t have mobile bank. Information security issues and cyber attacks come to my mind also as a risk and challenge of digitalization.

I think, that there is more good things than bad things about digitalization. It is so much easier to take care many things nowadays, for example this school. I can work and study at the same time, because I don’t have to be physically in school. I can pay my bills in online bank and I can book a trip without going travel agency. That’s only few examples, how digitalization helps me vs digitalization in 90’s, when I was a child.
