About me

After graduating from Savonia as an engineer, I started my career as a bridge design engineer at Destia Ltd in early June 2014. As of writing this, I have accumulated nearly 10 years of work experience with the same employer. During the first three years, I worked as a junior designer, followed by four years with the title of designer. Currently, I have advanced to the role of design consultant. Based on my expertise and work experience, I anticipate obtaining the title of senior consultant in the near future. In my role at Destia, my responsibilities have included structural, repair and general planning of bridges. Additionally, I have been involved in general inspections and load capacity assessments of bridges. Besides bridges, I have also designed other structures, such as pile slabs, retaining walls and ground slabs.

In Destia’s expert services, my focus has been on the dimensioning of reinforced concrete bridges. Many of the bridge projects I have designed were implemented in design and build projects for Finland’s national roads, requiring close collaboration with contractors and swift response to emerging needs and challenges on-site. Consequently, numerous design solutions have been tested on construction sites and proven effective. Due to the nature of my tasks, I have gained practical insight, enabling me to assess the functionality of my design solutions from both the designer’s and contractor’s perspectives. In my design work, I have become adept at working independently in diverse situations and collaboratively within a design team. I actively strive to share my knowledge with younger designers.

In addition to my design work, in 2017, I participated in a course on the repair of concrete structures organized by the The Concrete Association of Finland. During that time, I took the qualification exam for demanding class repair designers of concrete buildings or bridges, as part of the course. Since the course’s scope could be optimized based on students’ needs, I did not participate in the building physics module. Nevertheless, I consider the knowledge and skills acquired during the course valuable in my current position.

As I write this, I have progressed to the final stages of my higher education studies. My thesis is complete. However, I am still awaiting the credits for it. My thesis explored the design of pile foundation for wind turbines. From this, I gained valuable, broadly applicable and new expertise that I can also leverage in the future.
