Kela, OmaKanta, Keva

  1. Kela manages the social security of people living in Finland. I applied for Kela support for the first time at the age of 16 when I moved away from home and studied in upper secondary school. At that time, I received student financial aid and housing allowance. Later, after continuing my studies at the university, I received a student loan through Kela. When I was in the army, I received housing allowance from Kela. I had my first child at the age of 25. When I went on maternity leave, I received a maternity allowance and parental allowance from Kela. For my second child, I chose money instead of the maternity package I received as maternity allowance. With the birth of a child, Kela started paying child benefits every month, which they are entitled to until they turn 17. If you must take sick leave from work for a longer period, Kela will pay the loss of money. Our family uses public health care services, of which Kela reimburses part of the costs. I and other family members have a European Health Insurance Card.
  2. I use OmaKanta very often, at least weekly. When logging in, I must first identify myself with a certificate card or online banking credentials, for example. I have the right to view my own health and well-being data. These include, for example, records of treatment visits, prescriptions and matters related to the will to treat. In addition to my own data, I have limited rights to access the health records of my own children.
  3. According to Keva’s calculator, my lowest retirement age is almost 68 years. If I retired at the age of 68, my salary would be almost 40% less than it is today. According to the latest estimate, if I retired at the age of 70, my salary would be 27% less than it is today.

Digital stores

I visited and got acquainted with the online stores Bookin.com and Trivago. I often use the services of these when we are looking for accommodation for a domestic or abroad trip. I these services I have found really good accommodation deals sometimes. Personally, I like to make price comparisons in several different places. So how do you recognize that online stores are reliable to use? It has sometimes happened to me that I have ordered a product from an online store abroad that I have never received for myself. Nowadays I can better assess which online store is safe to buy. However, I prefer to always prefer Finnish online stores. I conducted a study on how consumers can identify that online stores are reliable to use. The websites must clearly contain contact information, i.e. information on how the consumer can get in touch if questions arise or problems arise. The pages of online stores must contain sufficient information about the services or products they sell. You should always prefer a credit card as a payment option, as it is the safest option for the consumer. The websites of service providers and online stores must also clearly display the company’s operations and terms and conditions. This information mentioned above was well found in both online stores.

Terveysportti

In my work as a nurse, I use Duodecim’s Terveysportti almost daily. Terveysportti is an online service that facilitates and speeds up the daily work of healthcare professionals by providing medical information. I often use the service, for example, to check what kind of possible side effects medicines can cause. In addition, Terveysportti contains the Current Care Guidelines, according to which I carry out nursing in my own work. I find it easy to use Terveysportti. The use of the service is clear, although there is a huge amount of information there.

Digitalization and digital gap

The increasing prevalence of digitalisation may pose risks and challenges for people who do not use virtual services. Such risks include inequality in services. Not everyone has the opportunity to learn how to use the equipment. For example, mental retardation or substance abuse problems often mean that it is not possible to use the digital service system. In addition, digitalization is at such a rapid pace that it is difficult to keep up with it. When you learn to use one system, there is already been replaced by a second or third service system. In the worst case, the legal protection of people without digital skills is at risk.

The Digital Competence Wheel

The results show that my strengths are information, communication, and security. According to the results, I can identify, locate, search, and analyze digital content, as well as to collaborate and interact with other people. The result describes well the characteristics that suit my character. Production points were the lowest for me. The ability to create and edit digital content or solve digital problems is not one of my interests.

Self assessment

I found the assignments very interesting and educational. It was very interesting to get acquainted with the works written by others. I believe that my own way of using digital services is in good shape, and I don’t think it will be a problem in the future either. I think that the assignment will help me better understand how digitalization affects me at work and at home.
