ePLATFORMS

In my current work, I only use YouTube and Skype as tools. The nature of the job doesn’t allow for the use of social media. However, in developing my work and myself, I can utilize the information provided by social media if I can ensure that it comes from a reliable source. Due to minimal use for work purposes, in this task, I reflect on various platforms in relation to my personal life. Currently, I actively use Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. I explored the applications available on the course platform and considered how I could utilize them in various ways. The demands for successful use for me are ease of use, data privacy, and clarity.

LinkedIn

I am a new user and I’m seeking networking opportunities and information about events, research, and education in my work field. My profile is still incomplete and needs to be finished. Fully utilizing the application is still a work in progress, but over time, I’m sure I’ll get the benefit from it that I want.

Snapchat

I have had it for a long time, but I have not learned how to use it. I probably have not used it much because it’s been perceived more as an application for the younger generation. Occasionally, I try to become more active in using it, but it remains an attempt every time.

Todoist and evernote

At a quick look, they seem like useful tools for managing work and busy everyday life, especially considering the demands of studying. There are many unfinished tasks, and without scheduling and maintaining a to-do list, life can be quite chaotic. I enjoy creating schedules for myself to progress in my studies, and this could make tracking progress easier. At work, there are also many time-bound tasks that could be prioritized and tracked for progress. Use of these services is limited by their cost, as the free version is quite limited.

ChatGPT

Artificial intelligence has received a lot of attention, both negative and positive. Prior to this task, I had tried it a couple of times, but I haven’t felt inclined to use it more extensively. However, it could be beneficial, for example, in creating summaries, but I’m still concerned about the accuracy of the content. My own experience with it is still so limited, and as I mentioned earlier, I don’t yet know how to use it in a way that would truly benefit me. I might take on the challenge of learning how to use it. In the future, artificial intelligence could also become a tool for me.

Good or bad social media?

There is a lot of good and bad on social media. I come across a lot of negative behaviour, although I haven’t personally experienced it. The so-called anonymous writing makes it easy, and therefore criticizing and insulting others is effortless. Users may also expose personal information and privacy to risks and there can be offered misinformation. On the positive side, I value the ability to stay in touch with relatives and friends who live far away. Social media also provides opportunities for professional networking, and it is a good marketing place.

Social media and various digital platforms are a part of everyday life nowadays. One can hardly manage without them, and digitalization is present daily. Personally, I am already dependent on social media and the content it generates, as well as on various platforms. Time is spent on social media, and at times, one must limit usage so that other daily activities do not suffer. However, I feel that my dependency is still minimal, especially compared to what one sees, for example, when going to the gym. Most visitors use their phones more than exercise equipment. Previously, this dependency might have been attributed to the younger generation, but nowadays, age seems to no longer be a factor. If there is also room in life for things other than social media, it can be a good channel for many things.

Self-reflection

this task was challenging because I cannot utilize applications or social media in my work. When comparing it to personal use, there aren’t many tools available for comparison when considering my own needs. On the other hand, I noticed how many different digital applications there are, of which I had no prior knowledge. I explored several services available on course platform, but many of them are such that I don’t have a need for them. However, it’s good to increase awareness, and perhaps in the future, wider use will be necessary?
